"I feel stronger and have more energy now in my 50's than I had in my early 40s." Growing up in a small Russion village, Olya was exposed to folk and herbal healing remedies by her father and became fascinated with our bodies ability to heal. This inspired her to get a degree as a nurse practitioner. "I wanted to nurse people to their best health!"
By the time she came to the US when she was 26, she was already partially disillusioned by the alleopathic approach to health. "Exposure to the way things are in the hospitals put the last nail in the coffin, finishing my interest in traditional aleopathic approach to healing."
Then, being moved by a basic need for self-support Olya then worked in a physical therapy clinic doing massage and exercises with patients with back pain (once a nurse always a nurse !) "I learned a lot about helping people eliminate pain and stay physically fit."
Bodywork, structural alignment, phsycial fitness and pain managment became her field and she started her own business.
"When I was 42, I went to my first Yoga class and I had a lot of questions for my teachers. Unfortunately, I was getting answers that made no sense to me nor satisfied my obsession with alignment. I did my own research and someone pointed me to Iyengar Yoga. Nine years later, after a daily two hour asana practice, regular Iyengar yoga classes, the study of yoga philoshpy and 17 yoga teacher trainings, this is the system I use to help people heal and grow. It became my medicine. I love it!"
"I love it because it is traditional, authentic, undiluted, detail oriented, and alignment based. It teaches HOW to do yoga. Not to mention the theraputic application of the practice to address individual needs and illnesses, as well as the art of sequencing poses to get a desireable outcome, and much, much more."
Iyengar Yoga is the healing system Olya's offers after many years of refinement.
