There is a lot of confusion about what exactly Interior Designers do. Some folks think that we come, toss pillows around and choose a paint color. A lot of people cannot tell the difference between a designer and a decorator.
Here is a brief summary.
Yes, we do change wall colors and specify right pillows. Some projects need just that. But some are much more complex. Prior to colors, we help you understand what is the scope of the project, what is needed to make this particular room come to life. Working with you, we help you to establish a budget for the project. Next, we work on the flow of the room/house/office, improve traffic patterns, satisfy your needs in storage, acoustics, privacy; we work with you to achieve the desired amount of seating in the room, create lighting schemes, help you choose furniture, fabrics, fixtures and finishes. We make sure that the space is safe and works as a Switz clock. After all of the above is finished, “Wow” Focal points come into play, relationship of textures, light and shadows enter the scene. And yes, pillows do come at this stage.
