👁What is it :
A condition in which the cornea becomes progressively thinner causing a cone like bulge to develop.
👁Symptoms:
Blurry vision, haloes, difficulty driving at night, distortion of vision, large prescription changes
👁Possible causes:
Excessive eye rubbing, ocular allergies, and some cases are inherited
👁When do we start to see signs:
Usually signs begin to occur in the late teen years to early 20’s.
👁Treatment:
Speciality contacts like scleral lenses, corneal cross linking , and advance case may result in corneal graft surgery
👁Facts:
Studies show that nearly 1 in every 2,000 people may have some degree of keratoconus!

November is diabetes related eye disease awareness month.
⚫️What is Diabetic Retinopathy: Occurs when diabetes damages the tiny blood vessels inside the retina, the light-sensitive tissues at the back of the eye.
⚪️Growing Issue: Diabetic Retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working aged adults from 20-74 years old in the US.
⚫️Today nearly 8 million are affected, it is projected that by 2030 nearly 11 million , and by 2050 nearly 14.5 million diabetics will be diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy.
⚪️No Early Symptoms: At first patients with diabetic retinopathy may notice no changes to their vision, but as the condition may worsen then they may experience vision loss or even blindness
⚫️Who is at risk : All people with diabetes, type 1 and type 2 are both at risk.
⚪️When detected early, treatment is 95% effective in preventing severe vision loss!
⚫️How to prevent: Getting a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year if you are diabetic.

💀The CDC estimates nearly 45 million Americans wear contact lenses! 1 out of 500 contact lens wears experience serious eye infections that could leave to blindness each year!
🦹🏽♀️With Halloween approaching, the interest in cosmetic and colored contact lenses dramatically rises to complete that perfect costume.
🦸🏻♂️Here are a few important contact lens rules to keep in mind.
🎃All contact lenses are medical devices, which are regulated by the FDA.
👻Every contact lens requires a prescription for that certain lens, even if they are labeled “non-prescription” lenses ( no vision correction). Contact lenses prescriptions are good for 1 year.
💀Do not purchase contacts at any Halloween store, clothing store, gas station, or any online vendor. Basically don’t purchase lenses from anywhere that does not require a prescription for that lens from your optometrist.
👀 Wearing contact lenses that have not been properly evaluated by your Optometrist may lead to serious harm to your eyes! It is your Optometrist’s job to ensure that your contacts fit properly and provide you with the best vision and comfort .
