In the midst of COVID-19, we want to assure you that every precaution is being taken to keep our clients, employees and their families safe. We are adhering to all the government issued rules and regulations and, fortunately as of today, it is business as usual. We are still preparing tax returns for the April 15th deadline; payrolls are being processed; audits are being conducted and bookkeeping and all other services are being offered.
However, we are making a few adjustments as to how we operate. We now have a COVID-19 preparedness plan in place for our operations. As part of this plan, we are asking clients to please use our drop box, fax, e-mail or our client portal to deliver information to us. Tax returns will be mailed directly to our clients, however, we realize that in some instances, you need to physically meet with us. We will still plan to do so on an as needed basis.
As we move forward throughout the next month or so, we will keep you posted on our business operations as mandated by our governing officials.

On Saturday, October 5th, employees participated in the River Cities Harvest Run in memory of our co-worker Aaron Parker. The run/hike took place at AK Park's new iron ore trail.

Specific job duties may include, but are not limited to, working on assigned segments of audit engagements; stay up to date on Firm policies and procedures with the AICPA, Kentucky and other applicable State Boards of Accountancy and Kentucky Society of CPA's rules, regulations and code of ethics. Regularly read and be familiar with pronouncements from the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB), and the AICPA. Progress professionally by working towards passing the CPA examination. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required.
Congratulations to Summer Robinson for receiving her CPA License on January 24, 2019. Summer passed the exam in September, 2017, and achieved the required 2,000 working hours on January 9, 2019.
Phillip M. Layne, CPA, Managing Director of Kelley Galloway Smith Goolsby, PSC, has announced Steve Roberson, CPA, CGMA and John M. Spears, CPA, CGMA, have become Shareholders/Directors of the Firm effective January 1, 2019.
Steve will assume the responsibilities of an Audit Director at the Firm. He graduated from Morehead State University in 2003 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and in 2008 with a Master of Business Administration. Steve is a resident of Ashland, Kentucky where he resides with his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Katie and Chloe.
John will assume the responsibilities of a Director at the Firm concentrating in Tax and Audit. He graduated from Marshall University in 1998 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. John serves as Treasurer of the Ashland Alliance, Ashland Alliance Foundation and Eastern Kentucky Public Health and serves on the Executive Leadership Team of the March of Dimes. John is a resident of Ashland, Kentucky where he resides with his son Braden.
Our River Cities Harvest "FILL A BIN FOR AARON" is overflowing this morning. In fact, we had to ask them to pick it up and bring us another empty bin. Our friend and co-worker was a Board Member and Treasurer of River Cities Harvest until he was no longer able to fulfill his duties due to peritoneal cancer. Stacy Griffith, an In-Charge Accountant at KGSG, is the newly elected Board Member and Treasurer of River Cities Harvest. The month of January is the slowest month for food donations to come in at River Cities Harvest so Stacy asked us to place a donation bin in our office. We felt this was also a great way to memorialize our good friend. We truly miss him!
