Every year, the third Sunday of June is observed as Father’s Day in India, and this year the date is June 21. This day commemorates and appreciates the role that fathers, father figures and paternal bonds play in a family and society as a whole. Father’s Day was founded in the United States of America in 1909 to complement Mother’s Day celebrations. The first time the day was celebrated was on June 19, 1910. This year on account of the coronavirus pandemic several families have been forced to spend quarantine together, while others have not been able to even see a loved one. No matter which category you fall in, take the time into doing something nice for your father this Father’s Day, even if it is just sending him a heartfelt message of how much he means to you.
And for those who have lost their Dad, take the time to reflect on the good times as I know that’s what my Dad would want me to do. Remember the laughs, the fun times, the bonding times. He may not be here with me, but he will always be in my heart and mind.
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there! Enjoy your weekend!
What have I learned during the Covid-19 lockdown?
Something I learned at an early age was that life is precious, don’t squander the time you have, it’s finite, there’s a definite beginning and end. We usually don’t know when the end is, but it’s something we just think will be much later in the future.
Unfortunately, now, for many, that much further in the future came and it’s here now. My heart breaks when I think about the people in the hospital who can’t have visitors and actually calling loved ones via face time to say their final goodbyes. How soul wrenching is that…
On a more positive note, I think this crisis has brought families closer. People working from home, having more family time, less commuting time, just more time in the day to be together. I’ve heard many wonderful stories about people doing puzzles together, playing board games, going for a car trip to the beach even though they can’t get out of the cars. I believe over the last decade or so families did not have the quality time that prior generations had. Life was simpler back then, harder in many ways, but simpler.
So positive or negative this Covid-19 world is our new reality and let’s learn from it, appreciate life more now and just hug your loved ones a little harder and longer.
Stay well and let’s ride this wave together!
