Sometimes the week goes smoothly and sometimes it doesn't. It's not about "if" we have an off day but more like "when."
The off day isn't the issue, it's about what comes next. Do I let one day turn into two, three, four days? Do I let it turn into a week or a month?
In recovery, we know this is a slippery slope, we try to live life one day at a time. So yesterday didn't go as planned...that's ok! Don't be afraid to start over. Every day is a new day to start over, to strive to be better, and to improve our connection to a power greater than ourselves.
Get to that meeting, read that AA/NA literature, call your sponsor, reach out if you need help! We are here for you!

Most of us are familiar with the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. I think many times we forget that behind each step is a Spiritual Principle.
Over the next 12 weeks, we will not only look at the 12 steps but the Spiritual Principles behind them.
The Spiritual Principle associated with Step 1 is honesty.
Honesty is part of the foundation we are laying to create successful, long-term recovery. We MUST be honest with our counselor, or sponsor, about our past. We MUST be honest about our drinking and using. We MUST be honest with ourselves!
A strong foundation is vitally important on this journey of recovery.

Kemah Palms Recovery would like publicly to denounce the actions of the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners' decision to strip protections for LGBTQ citizens and people with disabilities from the social worker code of conduct for the State of Texas. As a facility, we are committed to treating all people with the dignity and worth inherent to them as individuals. Our social workers live and work daily by the value of "Dignity and Worth" of all people. This value of non-discrimination is core to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. The staff of Kemah Palms Recovery will not change our practice, and we will fight with our social work employees to change this statute to reflect the core values of the field.

Ashton will graduate in the spring from Alvin Community College with an Associate Degree in Human Services/Substance Abuse. He is a proud alumnus of Kemah Palms Recovery and extremely passionate about the field of addiction and helping those in the LGBTQIA+ community find sobriety. Ashtonβs long term goal is to become a Social Worker and work specifically with this community. In his downtime, Ashton loves baseball and spending time with his fiancΓ©.
