TREATMENT TUESDAY!
FRENECTOMY – Is the removal of the frenum, a small fold of tissue between the front teeth connecting the inner aspect of the lip with the gum.
A frenectomy can be needed for a few different reasons:
1) When the frenum connects close the top of the front teeth exaggerating the gum margin and can cause recession in the future. Releasing the frenum with a frenectomy allows the lip to move freely and in a majority of cases can improve your smile as well.
2) A large frenum can prevent the top teeth from coming together properly resulting in a gap between the two front teeth.
Many of our patients are referred to us by their orthodontist before initiating orthodontic treatment. The surgical process of removing the frenum will allow the teeth to move more effectively per the orthodontist’s treatment plan.

GUM GRAFTING – Or gingival graftingis a procedure that is done to help build back the gums from where it has receded often exposing root surfaces allowing bacteria under the gums into the roots. The procedure takes a thin piece of tissue from the roof of the mouth and places the healthy tissue over the affected area.
Gum grafting is predictable creating a barrier from bacteria to enter the roots, can help reverse sensitivity to hot and cold foods as well as result in better aesthetics around the tooth and gums.

It is recommended that you get an oral cancer screening every 3 years between the ages of 20- 40 years old and every year after the age of 40.
Screenings can be done at yearly exams or Dr. Kennedy can work with you and/or your general dentist to perform an oral cancer screening exam alone or with other treatment appointments. LANAP Laser Procedure – Dr. Kennedy can use our LANAP laser to help regenerate tissue lost due to periodontal disease. The technology of the laser targets only the diseased gum which agitates the healthy tissue encouraging it to reattach to the bone.
The ability of the laser to only target diseased tissue also allows for less postoperative pain.

CROWN LENGTHENING – Is a procedure done to expose more of the tooth structure often for the purpose of placing a new crown on the tooth or other type of restoration. This procedure allows for proper fit and function of the new crown.

Occlusal Bite Adjustment - is the reshaping of the biting surfaces of a tooth, or teeth, to improve function or structure of the teeth. It can also include using custom fitted guards to keep the teeth apart either during the day or the night.
Adjustment can help restore teeth that have shown wear from daily usage, TMJ or loose teeth. If your occlusion is off some patients have symptoms of bruxism, headaches, jaw pain or spots on your teeth that the enamel has been worn away. With these adjustments we can help restore a healthy mouth to readjust the contact that teeth have with each other, hopefully alleviating pain caused by occlusal trauma.
In certain treatments we will work with your orthodontists to help reposition teeth as needed that our bite adjustment therapy can’t help alone.

Osseous Surgery/Pocket Reduction Surgery – Osseous surgery is performed to get rid bacteria living in pockets between the teeth and the gums. If these pockets have gotten too deep for you to clean at home or even a hygienist at our office or your dentist office to clean out surgery is needed. Dr. Kennedy will surgically pull back the gum to be able to clean out the bacteria and reshape any damage to the bone. Once closed the gum is closed back to help the healing process.
After osseous surgery Dr. Kennedy and his team will work with you to create good hygiene habits to help prevent any further disease and issues in the future.
