Anne’s story: After dealing with breast cancer, four surgeries and radiation, I was left with chronic pain and limited range of motion. The last thing I wanted to do was go to physical therapy (PT). But my surgeon made me promise that I would start PT after he performed my last surgery. I had been down that road before to no avail, so I was skeptical of how it would really benefit me. But a promise is a promise, so I went on a quest to find a program and after Googling ‘post cancer rehab programs’ I found ReVital at the NovaCare LifeBridge location in Eldersburg, MD. I called and asked several questions and they explained that they were specialists in oncology rehabilitation. At that point I got a bit excited and booked an appointment. At my first appointment. I was still doubtful that I would meet with anyone who understood the nuances of a person with chronic pain from cancer treatment. It seemed like finding people to help me was like looking for a needle in a haystack, the journey had been a long one and I was tired. Diana, my PT, came in and began to go over my history and to my surprise she began asking the right questions about my condition. This made me perk up some. When she saw the limited range of motion in my arm, she was candid and told me that if I didn’t get my arm moving again, I would continue to have issues. That is what pushed me to move ahead in the program and I left that day with hope. Over several months my therapists -- Diana, Ally and Lindsey -- worked with me to get the range of motion back in my arm. Although some sessions were painful, I never had terrible flares because they always listened to me to understand how I was feeling that day and made sure I didn’t overdo it. Fast forward to today, I have almost full range of motion again. I still have pain and likely always will because of the radiation damage and other damage that occurred during my cancer treatments. But the pain is dialed back most days. I’m back doing things I love like riding horses, working out and cooking. There was a point where I was bed ridden and really was losing hope. My ReVital therapists have helped me get my quality of life back and I cannot thank them enough. #GETLOUD
