Dr. Omar Syed & his happy patient Lydia & her husband. Lydia is only 2 months out from a Lumbar fusion and doing amazing! You can’t see it but those are smiles under those masks!! 😷 (don’t mind the separation...Covid keeps us from our normal hugs!!)
Patient Success Story!! Stephen, an avid cyclist, came to our office for a consultation with Dr. Arginteanu in August 2019 for low back pain radiating down his extremities, primarily his left leg. While trying everything he could conservatively and receiving no relief, he came to us as a last hope. After review of his MRI and physical examination it was decided that a microdiscectomy for a herniated disc was the best choice for a man as active as Stephen. He underwent surgery 1 week later and recovered as flawlessly as we could ever expect. On Friday, August 14th, almost one year to the date of his discectomy, he rode his bicycle 25 miles to Nyack, NY and back. The next day 8/15 he rode 54 miles to Stony Point, NY and back and on Saturday 9/12 he rode 85 miles. Since he has gotten back on his bike in March 2020 (approximately 7 months post op), he has ridden almost 1500 miles in preparation for his 100-mile ride on October 3rd for JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. Helping people like Stephen return to the activities they love is one of the most amazing benefits about what we do at Metropolitan Neurosurgery. It is even more rewarding when these patients do what they love and help organizations like the JDRF. We have shared his donation link below that includes more about this extraordinary man. https://www2.jdrf.org/site/TR?fr_id=8084&pg=personal&px=11324088
Happy Tuesday! The Staff at Metropolitan Neurosurgery hopes that everyone stays safe during this storm. Here is a little post to make you smile. Sometimes you just need Dr. Seuss to break down the basics for you. Check out some pages from his book on the Human body. Here he easily explains our spine and how it works!

Another 5 ⭐️ google review for our very own, Marc Arginteanu, MD, with a very heartfelt patient review. "I put off back surgery for many years. I was scared to have it done and what I heard from others who had back surgery, wasn’t encouraging. This past year it got so bad that I could hardly walk. A friend recommended that I go see Dr. Marc Arginteanu. Dr. Arginteanu and the staff at Metropolitan Neurology changed everything for me. I went through the necessities of getting an MRI and a few visits to the office. Dr Arginteanu was amazing through the whole process and really made me feel like I was making the right decision to have the surgery. Dr Arginteanu talks to you in a humble, friendly manner (unlike most other doctors). I finally had the surgery, a discectomy and minor laminectomy. I was told that it could take months for the nerve to heal, but I felt like a new person from day one. Yes, I was really sore from the surgery, but the sciatic pain caused by the herniated disc went away immediately. I’m not saying this will be the case for everyone, but my only regret was that I didn’t make an appointment to see Dr. Arginteanu years ago. I hardly do any google reviews, but I know there are many people suffering from back pain, and do not know what to do. I can tell you with 100% confidence to make an appointment to see Dr. Arginteanu…you will be very glad you did."

Excited to share Kevin Yao, MD describe how deep breathing and mediation can be an effective tool when dealing with stress, anxiety, pain and even recovery from surgery. “Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again.” -Thich Nhat Hanh Metropolitan Neurosurgery Associates Yesterday at 9:09 AM · Dr. Yao describes how deep breathing and meditation can be tools for handling stress, anxiety, pain and recovery from surgery.

A wonderful success story from Dr. Omar Syed's patients, Nancy. We love to hear such happy stories from our patients. Nevro HF10 December 3 at 5:02 PM · “HF10 was my last hope,” said Nancy, a professional jazz singer, pianist and music teacher whose career was severely restricted by her incapacitating pain. “Singing and performing are my passions and since getting my implant I am able to play or instruct on the piano for up to five hours with almost no pain.” Nancy struggled with excruciating pain for three years before having a multi-level laminectomy in 2013. That gave her relief until 2018 when her pain returned with a vengeance and was then exacerbated by a car accident. Surgical interventions, epidurals and physical therapy were not successful at relieving her pain. “I could only stand or walk for 7-10 minutes,” Nancy recalled. “I had to give up performing in Europe and scale back my conservatory teaching because sitting at the piano accompanying other vocalists triggered too much pain.” In May 2019 Nancy took Dr. Kenneth Park’s recommendation to do an HF10 trial. Nancy moved forward to have Dr. Omar Syed do her implant procedure in July 2019. “HF10 has not only restored my career but now that I can stand for longer without pain, I am also enjoying cooking again,” Nancy said. marcarginteanu.md January 31 at 11:11 AM · The incredible edible egg provides some of the highest quantities of choline of any food. Choline is an essential nutrient that is required for normal development and function of the brain. Choline promotes brain health in several ways including the maintenance of structural integrity of cell membranes and the regulation of signals that pass between neurons (brain cells). Choline also may function through epigenetics (how your environment can change the way genes work) by chemically altering DNA (methylation) and changing the expression of neuronal genes. Not getting enough choline in your diet may have adverse effects on brain health. Dysregulated genes may contribute to some neurodegenerative disorders (such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gherig’s disease), multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease). It may also contribute to the etiology of stress-related disorders and age-related decline in memory later in life. In fact, getting plenty of choline early in life, enhances performance in memory-related tasks during adulthood. And maintaining adequate choline intake throughout life may act as a neuroprotectant that may mitigate some of the adverse effects of neurodegenerative disorders.
We love to share pictures of our happy patients, especially when they bring such creative tokens of appreciation for the doctors. Anthony is 1 year out from multilevel lumbar fusion surgery and doing excellent. He was beyond thankful for Dr. Syed giving him his life back. So much show he gave him this great picture that we will proudly hang in our office.
