Happy Tuesday Everyone! Did you hear oxygen went on a date with potassium? I heard it went OK….. Aside from the fact that stand-up comedy is clearly not in our wheelhouse, hands on science projects is something we are definitely good at! Today one of our 2-year-old classes had fun learning about chemistry! We used some safe and common ingredients for this basic chemical reaction – vinegar and baking soda. Science experiments like this can be a fascinating way to help develop a bunch of great skills in children. They work on things such as: resourcefulness, goal-setting, planning, problem-solving, observing, and new ways of questioning/understanding the world. For these reasons and many more it’s important to provide young children with plenty of opportunities to get hands-on science learning all year long! #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #science #chemicalreaction 0#sciencestudent #earlychildhood
Happy Thursday Everyone! Did you know, when you keep missing math class, it starts to really add up…. Bad jokes aside, importance of in-person learning is critical for students of all ages! In addition to the development of social and emotional skills; it creates a safe environment for educational instruction and other needs. One area in particular is math! Here we have one of our 3’s classes working on One-to-One correspondence, which is a very important beginning math skill for preschoolers. One-to-One correspondence involves the act of counting each object in a set once, and only once with one touch per object. It can take months or even an entire year for preschoolers to begin counting objects correctly with one-to-one correspondence. For this reason, it’s important to provide young children with plenty of opportunities to practice counting all year long! #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #math #counting #mathstudent #earlychildhood
Hey Everyone, Even though Earth day technically isn't for awhile, recycling teaches students to care for the environment as well as many other skills. Talking about recycling provides children the opportunity to learn about where products come from, how they are made and how they can be reused. Our 3’s classes created many different activities to also help promote letter recognition, fine motor skills and sorting by attributes. Our students had fun playing in in sensory table and sorting, painting with recycled items. Never underestimate the power of recycling and reusing materials for fun activities! #recycling #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #reuse #reduce #recycle #art #sensorybin
Happy Monday everyone, Last Thursday we had the privilege of hosting our 4th annual art show and charity auction at our school. It was a blast and we and we really enjoyed showing off the impressive art our students created. First, we’d like to thank everyone who came to the event and respectfully followed the safety guidelines of the event, you truly helped make the event special and safe! For those who donated – a special thanks for your immense generosity, Comfort Cases and the children within the foster care system are that much better off because of your contributions. These are important life lessons that will be passed down to the next generation and help make the world a better place. #giving #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #charity #comfortcases #aid #generosity #art
Happy Tuesday Everyone! These past 2 weeks our summer camp theme has been Outer Space, and we have really had a blast. It is by far one of our all-time favorite summer camp themes. This past week our preschool classroom really had fun recreating a special box astronauts and scientists use to study objects, it is called a glove box! We pretended we had some special outer space rocks and materials we needed to investigate. Our children really enjoyed this hands-on exploration. Fun fact, did you know that the astronauts who studied the first moon rocks back in the 60’s used a glove box as well? Pretty cool! #astronauts #communitybeginshere #scienceisfun #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #communitybeginshere #nasa
Happy Friday Everyone! I can’t be the only one who believes our children are great artist, after all they always seem to really draw a crowd….. 😊 Today we’d love to share how one of our three’s classrooms used some process art in the classroom. Art is a great avenue for children to explore the world around them and to express themselves. What is process art you might ask yourself? Well it is the lens through which educators shape their art activities, it is the idea that we focus more on the process of creating than what the outcome of the art activity loos like. Process art is important because it helps children learn through open-ended activities, fosters independence and self-esteem in the choices they make and empowers them to feel good about their choices! Our students worked on creating a painting using ‘Fall’ materials such as pinecones and branches, etc. We definitely recommend process-art oriented activities at home. #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #processart #charactereducation #earlychildhood #artsandcrafts
Happy Tuesday Everyone! First - What does a panda ghost eat? Bam-BOO! 😊 Jokes aside, last Friday we enjoyed a modified version of our annual Fall Festival. Although we couldn’t do trunk-or-treat or some of our other big traditions, we wanted to make sure we embraced the fall spirit and still hosted a costume parade. All of our students came to school dressed ready to impress and our parents gathered around the perimeter of the fence to see them strut their stuff with music blasting in the background. Afterwards students got to pick a pumpkin and do some decorating. All in all, it was a fun time, and we are glad we got to celebrate! P.S. Even 'costumed-up' our management team is hard at work #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #earlychildhood #fall #halloween #costumeparade #pumpkins
It is another Fun Friday and it is Team Jersey Day at Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg! Here’s a football joke that’ll have your kids laughing: Q: What did the football coach say to the broken vending machine? A: Give me my quarter back! Work or play, we do not hold back when it comes to showing our team spirit. No matter what, we are always cheering each other on here at school. The fun and learning continues as we embrace school as an important part of our lives. #learningthroughplay #learnon #SuperBowl #SpiritDay #earlychildhoodeducation #teamwork #communitybeginshere
It is another Terrific Tuesday here at Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg! What did the traffic light say to the car? - Don't look! I'm changing! Today at school, we learnt about the African American inventor, Garret Morgan, Sr. Did you know what his special contribution was to us and our communities? Well, if the joke did not give it away then you’ll see that he invented the three-position traffic signal! Followed by an enthusiastic group discussion during their morning meeting sharing and listening to ideas, the students made their own traffic signals out of construction paper. "As the story goes, when Morgan witnessed an especially spectacular accident at an ostensibly regulated corner, he had an idea: If he designed an automated signal with an interim 'warning' position—the ancestor of today’s yellow light—drivers would have time to clear the intersection before crossing traffic entered it." Thanks to his 'bright' idea we all proceed carefully through an intersection each time. #learningthroughplay #learnon #earlychildhoodeducation #communitybeginshere
Happy Friday, Facebook Family! Any guesses what the number 8 represents here at Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg? It is the number of teachers at our school that successfully completed their Pre-School Lead Certification this week!! Congratulations to our team for showing their commitment to a high-quality learning environment, in yet another way. They make learning fun and impactful for our students every single day! #learnon #communitybeginshere #preschool #earlylearning #learningthroughplay #earlychildhoodeducation
Today marks a very special day at Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg, it is the 100th day of school! We celebrated this special occasion in our older classrooms. The School-Age, PreK and Preschool classroom each worked on a special activity. In the School-Age class, all of the children worked together to create a satirical-book called “Things we've been told a 100 times!” In PreK, the students were asked to prepare a bag that contains 100 items from home. We even took that a step further and bagged our favorite items in multiples of ten! Then we shared stories what was inside with our classmates. Last but not least, the Preschool students worked on creating a silly hat commemorating the 100th day of school! After all these fun activities, each class had a special afternoon snack, chocolate rice cakes decorated by the students with fresh berries and sugar-free icing. All in all, it was a super fun and productive day at school. Each class learned about numbers, colors and quantities. Try creating fun milestones at home with your children. #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #math #counting #mathstudent #earlychildhood #100thdayschool
Happy Monday Everyone, “The time is always right to do what is right” – Martin Luther King Jr. Within our Life Essentials curriculum there is a pillar called Character Essentials. What is Character Essentials you might ask, well it is an educational program that teaches common values and character traits to children with the intention of helping them develop into moral, caring and responsible people. In the month of January, the theme is “We Get Along”. The goal is to focus on the ways we can work toward getting along with others in a group. Who better exemplifies this than Martin Luther King Jr? For his entire life he fought to raise the public consciousness on issues of discrimination, segregation in the United States and equal rights for all Americans. Therefore, it was only logical that our PreK classroom did a whole unit on who Martin Luther King Jr was! In this unit they worked on a particularly impressive project called “We have a Dream” Children were asked to think of what they wanted to be when they grew up and asked to write it down. This type of high-impact activity and others like are so crucial for young children at this age as they begin to mature and develop empathy. For families at home, we strongly suggest an activity like this or even reading books about important historical figures. Any opportunity to work on these character essentials is great! #communitybeginshere #learnon #earlyeducation #preschool #fun #education #school #childcare #charactereducation #earlychildhood #MLK #Empathy #WeGetAlong
