Surgery days begin much like dental days.
To begin the process, the animal has a physical exam and blood work. From that a Veterinarian determines what anesthesia is appropriate for the animal. The animal receives an anti inflammatory and antibiotic. Once all surgeries are checked in, the anesthesia plans are put in place and the process begins. The animal is anesthetized, an iv catheter is placed to provide fluids, an endotracheal tube to provide an open airway to ensure proper oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange. The oxygen, fluids and monitoring devices are attached. Then the Veterinary Technician positions the animal to be prepped for surgery to begin.The area is now shaved and scrubbed and ready for the Veterinarian. Grab your surgeon, a surgery pack and it is time to get started. Their vitals are recorded in intervals to ensure the safety and comfort of the animal. Trim those nails, then monitor as they recover.

Lucky for you, a Veterinary Technician is trained to take radiographs to help the Veterinarian locate the area of discomfort or abnormality. A radiographic image can confirm fractures, obstructions, monitor presence of diseases and much more with a quick trip to our imaging room.

For the Veterinarian to have a successful surgery, they need the proper tools prepared and ready for anything.
Surgery packs must be made. Once they are used, they must be cleaned, packed and sterilized.

Isn’t it such a headache to go to the doctor because you feel that something is wrong and you have to wait for hours or days to get results on lab work?! You want to know why you are gaining or losing excessive weight. You want to know why you feel so sluggish. When it comes to your animal it can be even more nerve wracking..you look at this poor innocent creature and just feel helpless. Lucky for you, the Veterinarian can order for the Veterinary Technician to run most blood and urine tests in office. Your Veterinary Technician wears the hat of a phlebotomist and laboratory technician to get closer to getting your loved one back to their normal self.

🦷🦷One of my favorite parts of my job, dental cleanings!🦷🦷
To begin the process, the animal has a physical exam and blood work. From that a Veterinarian determines what anesthesia is appropriate for the animal. The animal receives an anti inflammatory to reduce the inflammation associated with all of the tartar build up that is going to be removed. As well as an antibiotic due to all of the bacteria being stirred around in their mouth. During the cleaning and polishing of their teeth, the animal receives iv fluids. Their heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate and saturation of oxygen are monitored closely to ensure the safety of the animal. And of course a nail trim. The animal is kept through the day to ensure a unremarkable recovery.
Then you repeat this a few times!
That is a basic gist of a dental cleaning..sometimes there are added services while the patient is in the office for the day.

🧦🩲 When it comes to our doggos eating inappropriate (and dangerous!) things, these days masks are the new socks and underwear. Why? Well, we already know dogs like the way their humans smell, and the way our clothes smell once we've worn them. Top that off with the lingering scent of the BLT you had for lunch, and it's understandable why dogs might find their owners' face masks irresistible.
😟 Unfortunately, ingestion of face masks can be harmful, even fatal, to our canine friends. Make sure your clients know to keep their used and unused masks safely away from their dogs by sharing this infographic and this terrific article by our friends at Vetzinsight:
