Do you need help paying your rent or mortgage or have a friend or family member financially impacted by COVID-19? Are you a landlord with tenants who are having a hard time paying rent? Rent and mortgage assistance is available now with expanded eligibility and additional funding from the federal Corona Aid, Relieve and Economic Security (CARES) Act, distributed through Kitsap County. Tenants can receive up to three months or more of rental assistance paid to the landlord. Homeowners can get help with their mortgage, too. There are funds available through multiple programs so if you applied previously but didn’t qualify, you may now be eligible. Contact the Housing Solutions Center of Kitsap County to learn more, apply and get the financial assistance you need. Funds are available immediately. Salmon are returning to Kitsap streams to spawn. The female salmon will dig a nest or redd and lay her eggs. After the eggs are fertilized, she covers them with gravel. COVID-19 activity has reached record-high levels in Kitsap. Forty new cases were reported today. Local health officials warn the surge of new COVID-19 cases is leading to a wave of hospitalizations, as more residents are exposed to the virus. Left unchecked, this spike in disease activity, combined with the arrival of flu and cold season, is a recipe for a healthcare crisis. The Kitsap Public Health District reports that like many Washington hospitals, CHI Franciscan, including St. Michael Medical Center in Bremerton, is experiencing bed capacity and staffing challenges as admitted COVID-19 cases increased by nearly 150 percent across the entire system since the beginning of the month. Update on Kitsap County Sheriff's Office alert issued earlier today and a suspect is in custody. Please see below. Kitsap County Sheriff's Office 13 hrs · One in Custody for First Degree Assault KCSO Deputies and Detectives responded to the Village Fair Apartments in the 300 block of Fairgrounds Rd at 2:52 pm today or a reported stabbing at the leasing office. When they arrived, Deputies learned that a male suspect had left the area and the female victim was being taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30’s with a shaved head and wearing a blue and purple “hoodie” with a gray hood and blue jeans. Detectives and others worked quickly to establish the suspect’s identity and ultimately located him at a location in Silverdale. The suspect, a 41-year-old Central Kitsap man who is a resident of the apartment complex, was arrested without incident and will be booked into the Kitsap County Jail for Assault-First Degree. Detectives will remain at the apartment complex processing the scene for a few more hours. Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Tiffany Dobbins at 360-337-5614. #24

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office Citizens On Patrol program is in great need of volunteers. Applications are now open for those dedicated to helping others who want to support the Sheriff's Office while improving the quality of life for citizens. Safety precautions are in place to protect volunteers from COVID-19 as the program comes out of its hiatus during the pandemic. Volunteers have a limited commission to enforce parking laws, do vacation house checks, keep the roadways clear of abandoned vehicles and conduct traffic control. They also assist with community events, junk vehicles on private property, courtesy boat inspections and security home inspections. Get some fresh air and a little work out along the Clear Creek Trail, joining an effort to clear out weeds to make way for flowers! Many hands make light work. Details below. 🌷🌺🌻 Kitsap Conservation District 12 hrs · Come help us weed the flowering wall above the Clear Creek Trail! On Monday and Tuesday, March 29 and 30th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Kitsap Conservation District and Kitsap County crews will be pulling weeds along the wall to rejuvenate the planting. We will mostly be pulling shot weed, which is a hardy winter annual that is already blooming. It is easy to identify and pull, and we’d greatly appreciate any help you can give! We want to get rid of as much of it as possible before it goes to seed. Parking is available at the Silverdale Dog Park, 11601 Silverdale Way NW, Silverdale, WA 98383.
