The new tax overhaul should impact everyone who is required to file a return. Following is a short explanation of a couple of items that may be impactful yet for 2017.
We will review your individual tax return issues going forward at your tax preparation appointments, or by special request. If you feel a need to review this in person we can set up an advisory appointment.
If your itemized deductions are typically over $12,700 and under $24,000, it would be helpful to pay your 2017 taxes before the end of the year. It would also be helpful to pay your charity ahead of schedule for 2018. If you pay quarterly taxes to the State of Wisconsin manually, it would help to pay these before the end of the year as well. Since they will be increasing the standard deduction to $24,000, these items will be less impactful in 2018 if your itemized deductions are typically mentioned above.
However, there is a $300 Wisconsin school property tax credit for paying $2,500 each year in real estate in Wisconsin. So if you pay your taxes in December this year, you probably want to next year as well.
