Never a dull day in #ldnont - A Traffic Management Unit officer caught the driver of this landspeeder travelling 150 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone. The vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the driver charged with stunt driving. #MayThe4thBeWithYou #SLOWDOWN #StarWarsDay

What to my wondering eyes should appear but a miniature…no wait, that’s an ELK! Troop G Kansas Highway Patrol reports this 800 lb bull elk collided with a vehicle near the KS/Okla border last night. Good reminder, to watch for deer (or elk) at this time of year. #NotSantasReindeer

We've seen an uptick of car vs deer over the last week. Be vigilant when you're driving! Keep an eye out for those rascals hanging out near the road. They seem to really enjoy wooded areas, bodies of water, and sources of food... like the Rest Area, rivers and streams, and milo, wheat, and corn fields... which pretty much covers all of Kansas.
As always, should you be an unwilling participant in the deer dating ritual, we'll be here to answer your call!

Winter Weather conditions are worsening throughout the county. Roadways are SLICK, SLUSHY and partially SNOWPACKED. Do not travel unless its necessary. If you must travel, slow down, use extreme caution, turn on headlights/taillights and buckle up!

A couple of reminders as we transition from freezing temperatures and snow to warmer days and rain/mud. When operating your vehicle in any type of inclement weather that reduces visibility get them headlights on.
When driving in poor weather or using your windshield wipers your headlights are required to be on. Kansas Statute 8-1703, reads in part - (a) every vehicle, except as provided in subsection (b), upon a highway within this state, at all times shall display lighted head and other lamps and illuminating devices....
(2) when due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions....
(3) when windshield wipers are in continuous use as a result of rain, sleet or snow....
Lastly, having several minimally maintained roads in the county, some have a sign posted that reads "CLOSED WHEN WET"; that sign is as serious as can be most times. We rescue several people a year from stuck vehicles on rural roads. Pay attention to the road conditions and do not travel areas where you may get stuck if you don't absolutely have to.
