PSA! We'll be developing a video to address spring pad installations in new construction.
We'll require 2x material anchored into framing and not over drywall to prevent this issue.

This is not a group for people who want to cut corners or preach no prep, prime, or sanding... there are plenty of other groups that do that, and you will not get that here.This is a group for people who want to learn how to do things right. This is a group for those of us who people call when they want someone they can trust to provide a durable, lasting finish.

This week our heart goes out to these homeowners who had paid to have their cabinets done just two years ago by another contractor... looks like they did not do proper prep or prime these 😕
We were called in to refinish these and because of the poor adhesion, we had to strip them back to bare wood and start from scratch.
When choosing a refinisher, make sure they prep, scuff sand, prime, sand and then coat. If they do not perform these steps it can lead to failure. The refinishers who know what they’re doing often charge more because they know all the work that goes into doing it right... this is definitely a case in which the cheapest option is not the best.
We ended up using our SurfPrep Sanding 5” orbital sander and 150 grit paper to take these down to bare wood and they will be ready for priming tomorrow 😅
