The show must go on! 🥁 🎸 🤘- That was the mentality of Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen following a traumatic car accident in 1984. In the accident, Rick lost his left arm, which should have ended his musical career as a drummer. But Rick was not about to let limb loss take away his passion for drumming. With the help of creative innovations from the drum industry and Rick’s personal gumption, Def Leppard once again took the stage with their drummer who had been given a second chance at life. Customized for Rick's specific needs, his adaptive drum kit allowed him to use his right hand and feet to trigger various parts of the kit so that he literally never missed a beat. It’s truly amazing to watch him perform.

Willpower is defined as the ability to have strong determination that allows someone to do something difficult. It is that determination that characterizes so many of our patients and individuals in the adaptive community. It seems like everyday we are more and more inspired by your stories of personal growth, adaptation, and sheer grit. We love that social media has allowed us to learn and highlight so many of those amazing stories of individuals overcoming limb loss and physical struggles. Keep sharing your stories because it is making all of us stronger.
To our followers out there who may not have a personal connection to someone with limb loss, we want to recommend Rising Phoenix, the new @netflixfilm documentary. 🎥 This amazing film introduces you to some of the world’s best paraathletes. 🦾 We promise you will be inspired, and probably shed a tear or two, as you learn more about what each of these amazing adaptive athletes have accomplished in their lives and athletic careers.🥇

If you wear a leg prosthesis, it is very important that you wear proper fitting shoes and never adjust the height of your heels. Remember, your device is built specifically for one heel height, so any adjustments could cause discomfort. Always talk to your CPO if you would like to make any adjustments or changes to your device to accommodate other types of footwear!

If we could adopt a motto for our patients at @apoidaho, it would be this. We have seen so many of them experience the ups and downs life has brought, but all of them have never given up. Save and share if you love this quote too!
Check out this awesome post from @loubihawkins about overcoming imposter syndrome and building confidence! You'll love the mantra she offers at the end!

@loubihawkins “Accept the lack of confidence and fear of failure but do it anyway”
.
Imposter syndrome! 😫🙋🏻♀️
. Feeling like a fraud
. Who am I to be doing this!
. What if they find me out! (My current sponsors will vouch for this, I often let them know that I’m just a girl from a little town with little to offer just to check they still want to proceed 🙈)
. I just got lucky 🍀
. I should just enjoy it whilst it lasts
. I can’t charge someone for this
. I’m not good enough to warrant this offer
.
All of the above is what goes through my my mind when I’m offered something. My mantra ‘Confidence is on the other side of Fear’ is what pushes me to do things, to accept offers and ultimately to progress 😊
.
Full of fear and doubt but excited for my next chapter ❤️
