Good afternoon everyone! We wanted to outline our new Rules for Reopening, to give some insight into how Kreimer’s Karate will safely operate on a day-to-day basis. We’re taking everything seriously, and it’s important that you do as well. Here are our new rules, with a disclaimer from us at the bottom: Kreimer’s Karate Rules for Reopening •We are limited to twelve (12) students per class to comply with social distancing. You may only come to your scheduled class time(s), so we know who/how many students to expect in each class. If you come to a class you are not signed up for, you will not be allowed to participate. •There is NO locker room access. Equipment bags can be taken on the floor, and can only be used by its owner and/or members of the same family. •NO equipment/uniforms can be borrowed or shared during this time. •All equipment on the floor including but not limited to: heavy bags, punch/kick targets, blockers, kick shields, medicine balls, blue mat, double end ball, speed bag, makiwara board, B.O.B., and railing can NOT be used or touched without permission. •The water fountain can NOT be used, except by staff. Water bottles will be permitted on the floor as long as they are in resealable bottles and can only be used when given permission. Water bottles must be kept in bags to reduce spillage or leaks on the workout floor. •In order to stay under 50% capacity, there can not be any spectators in the lobby for Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Black Belt classes. Lil’ Dragons are allowed one (1) parent or guardian to watch class from the lobby. We ask that non-Lil Dragon parents remain outside the studio for the duration of class. •The only bathroom that may be used will be the Men’s Restroom in the lobby. During this time, anyone may use this restroom. Please use the restroom for emergencies only. We politely ask our parents that siblings are left at home, if possible, to lessen any extra restroom use. •Masks are required to be worn at all times while in the building, including during class. They may only be taken off during designated water breaks, then must be put back on before returning to your marked spot on the floor. •Hand sanitizer will be located near the front door. We politely ask that you use it when entering the building. •Spots on the floor are marked by a silver duct tape “X”, please do not remove or move the spot markers. Each spot is measured to be 9’-10’ apart from each other, to ensure that a minimum of 6’ is between students at all times. •Attendance cards will not be pulled by students at this time, to avoid cross-contamination over surfaces. Once you enter the studio, you will be expected to use hand sanitizer, enter the floor, find a spot for your equipment, find a spot on the floor relatively close to your bag, and begin stretching. •Shoes must be taken off before you enter the workout floor. Please carry your shoes with your equipment bag and place them on top of or in the bag, so the workout floor does not get dirty. If possible, please wear a clean pair of shoes. •Class times will be slightly abbreviated to allow time for cleaning between classes. In order to maintain a full class, warmups will be shortened, so it is important that you do some stretching on your own before class begins. Classes will begin at their set time and be approximately 40 minutes long. •Please do not enter the building more than 10 minutes before your class time. Time has been allowed for one class to fully leave before the next class begins entering, so that there is not any two-way passing with close contact. •Parents are required to pick-up their student(s) outside the front door of the studio after class. This is to ensure the safety of the students in the parking lot. •Students that are sick, or showing sick symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, etc. should be kept at home. Students that begin displaying aforementioned symptoms, may be asked to leave. If you think you or your child are sick, please exercise caution and attend class over Zoom. •All classes will be streamed from Zoom, so students can participate from their homes and parents can watch class from their cars. To access the Zoom class, you will have to enter the room code and the password, which is “karate”. The room code is available upon request, and will not be made public. If taking/watching class on Zoom, please use the name of the student or your last name. To keep our students safe, any viewers that do not have the name representing a student will be kicked from the room. •PLEASE be on time for your class. Classes will start on time, and students that arrive late could be at risk of not being allowed on the floor. This also applies to students taking class over Zoom. Once Mr. Adam begins teaching class, there’s a possibility that he won’t be near the computer to allow late entry. Once class begins, the front door will be locked. •Please note that while classes will still be streamed over Zoom, Mr. Adam’s attention will be focused on student’s that are in the studio. The Zoom stream will be available for you to follow along with class, but he will not be able to focus on two separate classes at the same time. We ask that you respect the student’s in class, and save any questions for Mr. Adam for your in-person class, messaged over Zoom’s chat feature, or asked after Mr. Adam has bowed out and dismissed his class. Students can still receive class credit for attending class over Zoom, although belt progression could be slowed if not attending in-person classes. Zoom classes during regular classes will not be recorded. •While we all miss seeing our friends, we ask that all socializing after class take place outside the studio so that we can remain in compliance with the guidelines set by the state and county. Note from Kreimer’s Karate Institute Inc.: Students and parents are expected to be aware of and follow all of the above rules at all times. Failure to comply with the above rules could result in fines, closure of business, or jail time for Kreimer’s Karate Institute Inc. To avoid any of the aforementioned, we ask that you please follow each rule we have stated above, in addition to all existing studio rules. While we wish we did not have to place such strict rules, they are necessary for us to open and remain open. Repetitive breakage of rules could result in loss of access to the Kreimer’s Karate Institute Inc. building until operations return completely to normal. Please do not put us in a situation to suspend your martial arts training. Thank you for understanding, Kreimer’s Karate Institute Inc.
When you practice Brazilian jiu jitsu on a competitive level, you are better able to assess your progress and determine how well you are incorporating your skills. However, winning does not mean you are doing things correctly, it only means you did them better than your adversary – you must always be willing to review, evaluate, and adjust if you want to master the sport and yourself.
Congratulations to Suleiman ego not only received his yellow belt tonight but was also named September student of the month. Congratulations also to Jim and Luke Roecker on receiving their gold bar belts tonight.
This is Maryann. She is 75 years young and wanted to refresh herself with the martial arts she once trained in. She broke this board beautifully!
Do you know when karate came to America? A man named Robert Trias was a United States karate pioneer, and he founded the first karate school in the mainland United States, in 1946. He also developed Shuri-ryu karate, an eclectic style with roots in the Okinawan Shuri-te tradition.
I’m stealing this (with permission) from a martial arts Facebook group that I belong to. Well worth the short read, and identifies the importance of PRACTICE. Practice won’t make perfect, since perfection is unattainable. Practice will, however, make better. “This is a post for the students: Why do we practice on our own? Why do we do 1000 kicks in a week, the same basic punches over and over, the same kata again and again and again, even when a coach isn’t watching us? Isn’t the point of practicing to get feedback so that you can improve every time? No. The point of practice is to improve, yes, and, we often do so in such tiny increments as to be invisible to the naked eye. A coach will make adjustments, they will tell you where to focus, they will remind you to keep your hands up and your eyes forward and to point your toes. They will tell you what you need to repeat in order to become great. Unless you are spending hours each day with them, though, they will not train your body to mindlessly shift its balance ever so slightly more onto the ball of your foot so that your kick moves imperceptibly smoother for you. They will not train your response time to be that fraction of a second quicker. You will do that. Your mindful repetition of the movement they have instructed, while focusing on the things they have told you, will do that. We cannot see our own incremental growth- it is best viewed from the outside, and seen most dramatically over time. It is a matter of faith in our instructors, and faith in *ourselves*, that simple repetition without their presence will continue to yield improvement.” -Kasi Cahill, Tatanka’s Martial Arts (Oakhurst, CA)
Do you ever get nervous when you have to go out at night by yourself? Taking karate courses can give you more control over your body, giving you the confidence you need to protect yourself.
It’s important to remember that Shotokan classes can be a powerful form of exercise. If you’re looking to burn some calories and increase your strength and stamina levels while improving concentration, our classes may be right for you.

Even with Frederick County’s guideline change reducing occupancy to 25% in gyms and fitness centers, there is no change to Kreimer’s Karate. We will still be operating in the same limited capacity we are using. Not allowing spectators inside gives us the ability to stay below occupancy thresholds, while still putting as many students on the floor as we can, spaced more than 6 feet apart. We take pride in providing a clean and safe environment to train. In addition to wearing masks during classes, we check temperatures of each person entering the building, require hand sanitizer upon entry and have multiple hand sanitizer location within the building, sanitize all equipment after use, and sanitize the floor and lobby between classes. Thank you for your cooperation, patience, support as each of us endure the pandemic! Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
While seemingly Chinese, did you know that the martial art of Jeet Kune Do is classed as an American martial art? Developed by the world famous fighter Bruce Lee, this practical fighting style involves elements of Kung Fu but is much simpler and makes do without the elaborate forms attached to it.
Karate and Taekwondo are martial arts that are considered “hard” styles, focusing on strikes and kicks and more direct in their approach to the “martial” aspect of the arts. Kung Fu is both a “hard” and “soft” style, combining self-defense with a strong focus on philosophy.
Congratulations to Weller and Coy on earning their Yellow Belts tonight!
Kreimer’s Karate will be OPEN for all classes tonight, Tuesday, February 2nd! If you can’t make it into class, Zoom class is available for you to follow along!
Tae kwon do is not merely a sport, but is an entire system of physical exercises and spiritual development based on movement and philosophical principles of morality. Closely tied to the yin and yang philosophy of duality, tae kwon do strives to create an ideal between a practitioner and him- or herself, as well as world around him or her.
