We wanted to recognize some of the hard work our kids are continuing to put in during these times! Here are some students who advanced to a new level in the past couple weeks!
Congrats to these students who moved up a level this week!
Success Story: Cedar Rapids Kumon student achieves state and national honors in math competition!
This spring Arya Ravikumar, a math and reading student at our center and a G by 4(Algebra by 4th grade) achiever, competed in the Math Kangaroo competition, an international mathematics competition for the best and brightest students from the US, Canada, and Singapore.
Competing against other fourth graders across the nation, Arya ranked 2nd at the state level and 4th nationally!
Arya had competed in this math competition before but as many things this year, the annual Math Kangaroo competition had to be online due to the pandemic. However, this change in format did not discourage Arya from participating. Since the competition was delayed as they worked on redesigning it to be held online, Arya took advantage of this extra time to take more practice tests in preparation for the competition. When the day of the competition arrived, Arya was so prepared that he felt like the questions were much easier than he anticipated.
Since the test was online, Arya received his result instantly. He only missed one question out of a total of 24! Arya says he was super excited to find out his score because he wanted to know if he missed any questions, but he wasn’t necessarily concerned with his ranking against other students. In fact, he and his family didn’t even realize the results had been posted until one day his mom decided to check the website. Arya and his family were thrilled when they discovered how well Arya placed!
Arya has been a math and reading student at our center for 5 years. He says he believes Kumon helped him do well in this competition because of the repeated practice of concepts he gets so he doesn’t forget ideas that he has learned before. Kumon lessons especially helped him when completing the variable problems on the test.
Arya, we are so proud of you and your achievement, congratulations!
