Start a Healthier Life This Holiday Season
Inscribed into the sidewalk behind the Admissions/Business Development cottage and across the street from the pool is “C Kirk 7/24/47.” It was put there by Claude Kirk, the man who developed Hilltop Hotel on this location in 1947. A World War I veteran who had developed a successful South Texas produce business, Kirk and his wife Jennie built the retreat on land in Hunt they bought during World War II. The top photo with snow was the Kirk’s Christmas card one year. The bottom photo shows the hotel and dining room from the river valley. The Kirks sold the hotel in 1954. It would be another 18 years before La Hacienda became a treatment center. #history #lahacienda
