Here's an update on how the coronavirus crisis is impacting the mortgage industry. While the markets themselves are settling in, some regulations may have loosened (drive-by appraisals?), and others may have tightened, with more paperwork to sign at closing. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA have ALL announced forbearance plans for their mortgage customers. But YOU have to call and take the initiative. If you find that you cannot pay your mortgage due to COVID-19 circumstances, please contact your mortgage servicer and request a "forbearance" This is good for up to 12 months, and will not affect your credit. They will not report the mortgage payments late to the credit bureaus.
