This is why- an important note from Managing Partner Warren Waugh:
As many know I try to avoid politics of all types socially, and yet at home and at the office I'm free to offer all sorts of advice. Question #1 is upon us and the manufacturers I represent and all the others sat down at the table far too slowly to mount a proper campaign and offer good rational information for opposing this question on November 3rd or sooner. As a new car dealer of 8 brands at 9 locations and two satellite service locations, I have a vested interest to protect my staff (600), brands and customers. The ads are right about one thing, and that is we have millions of dollars invested in facilities and equipment. I also have invested millions in personnel and training. One or two of the ads shows our Mercedes-Benz of Burlington location without permission. In MA alone, there are easily ten times the personnel at car dealerships than independent shops. The "for" voting would have you believe that this is about the independent repair shops and it is in some small way. They are great customers of mine and I wholesale millions of dollars in parts to these valuable locations and business people. They profit from my sales and my locations. I want them to have strong businesses and continue to purchase from me as our Mercedes Sprinter vans are all over New England delivering parts to repair shops and body shops. BUT this is not just about the poor independent business person. This is about the many parts retailers and wholesalers that are funding this Question #1 ballot. They DO want your information and they DO want to sell parts to the same shops I do. We've already been down this road several years ago. Independent shops and body shops have all the information needed to repair your cars expertly. These parts retailers like AutoZone, O'Reilly's, NAPA and more want your car's information. I believe we are too late to this very serious question to supply far better opposing information than we have. We have not done a good job in opposition. I'll leave you with this. I have many friends on FB and social media. You do business with me; socialize and you know how I conduct our Lyon Waugh Auto Group businesses and the amazing people I employ. If you would give just anyone your iPhone password than vote yes, and if you are one to protect that information vote NO.
