Dr. Baraff is a Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Baraff received his AB from the University of Pennsylvania and his MD from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed a Pediatric Residency at Georgetown University Hospital and an Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Southern California. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine in Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is a past member of the Editorial Board of the Annals of Emergency Medicine, and his achievements have been recognized and honored by the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. He has served on the National Council and the Board of Directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians and as President of the California Chapter. He has also been a member of the Emergency Medical Services Commission of the County of Los Angeles, the National Faculty of the American Heart Association and the Executive Committee of the Southern California Injury Prevention Research Center. He played a key role in the creation of the Trauma Systems for the State of California and Los Angeles County. Dr. Baraff's fields of research interest include Health Policy and Health Services Research, Medical Decision Making, Infectious Diseases, Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Behavioral Health. He has received over $22,000,000 in research grants and is the author of over 120 scientific publications. He has done sentinel work in defining reactions associated with DTP vaccine for the Food and Drug Association. He developed Emergency Department Diagnosis Related Groups for the Health Care Finance Agency. Dr. Baraff has developed practice guidelines for the management of children with Fever Without Source and for Falls in the Elderly. He is one of a team which has developed a World Wide Web based expert system for the Management of Occupation Exposure to Blood and Body Fluids funded by the Centers for Disease Control.
