Laughing Palette is a paint & sip company formed by Harold A. Bascom, an artist, novelist, and playwright out of Loganville, GA. For the past 40 years he has been a practicing painter. Close to 20 years of that time, he has been an art teacher (of adults and children), and also a theatrical entrepreneur. Art and entertainment has always been part of his vocational repertoire. His decision to establish a paint & sip entity, therefore, came easy.
But what exactly is a paint & sip? It is more or less an art class in a laid back atmosphere with light music where each patron—for the price of registering to do an advertised painting—is given, essentially, a pre-stretched canvas (usually 16” X 20”) on a table easel, a set of brushes, a palette of acrylic paints, and an apron. The ‘sip’ in the name is what fuels these events: one sips wine while trying one’s hand at a painting through guidance by a hired art instructor. (At most paint & sips, patrons would either bring their own bottles of wine or buy their own bottles of wine.) ‘Paint & sips’ are also referred to as ‘Paint Parties’.
By and by the question will be asked: “So what makes one paint & sip different from another?” At Laughing Palette the answer is, ‘the Laughing Palette experience’. It begins with every patron guaranteed a snack built into the price of a painting session, and ends with amazing paintings completed through detailed and friendly painting instruction. To ensure that the actual painting experience is as enjoyable as the sipping experience, Laughing Palette hires art instructors who will give you something—impart something to you, and that key ‘something’ is technique in the simplest of ways.
