Laurence Shields, MD is currently the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Marian Regional Medical Center. After fellowship at UCSD, he joined the faculty at the University of Washington in Seattle where he practiced for 13 years. During that time he participated in numerous clinical outreach programs, directed the Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship program, and published and lectured widely in both preclinical and clinical areas. In 2006, Dr. Shields and his family relocated near his home-town on California?s Central Coast. Since relocation to California, Dr. Shields has been an active participant with in the California Maternal Quality Care collaborative (CMQCC) Pregnancy-Related and Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review committee (CA-PAMR), he was a member of the CMQCC Maternal Hemorrhage Taskforce, and co-chair of the Preeclampsia Taskforce. He also serves as Medical Director of Dignity Health?s Maternal Patient Safety Improvement Coalition and is a member of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Committee. He has over 20 years experience as a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist with a strong commitment to optimizing maternal and fetal outcomes especially in pregnancies complicated by maternal medical or abnormal fetal conditions.
