James E. Swingley opened his own practice in 1991 which is now called the Law Office of James E. Swingley. While a primary focus of his practice is personal injury plaintiff work, he also does a significant amount of transactional work including formation of corporations and limited liability companies. Swingley also has significant business litigation experience, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He helps to review leases, draft buy/sell agreements, partnership agreements, dissolve corporations and advise start-up businesses and small business owners. He also handles wrongful termination and condemnation cases.
In addition to personal injury trials (auto accidents, slip and falls, etc.), he has tried medical malpractice, legal malpractice, breach of contract and construction cases. In 2011, Swingley won the largest jury verdict in the North County District Court. He was also one of two attorneys who achieved a $900,000 products liability settlement in the 1980s. James E. Swingley has been a litigation attorney since 1986 and is licensed to practice in Federal District Court for the Southern District of California, the Central District of California and the United States Tax Court.
