The right to keep and bear arms is established in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution but certain limitations to this right still exist. Many different kinds of weapons are subject to federal law, and possession of certain weapons or activities could be criminal offenses.
When you are charged with a federal weapons crime, you need to understand the nature of the prosecution is dramatically different from weapons crimes prosecuted at the state level. Federal agencies are typically armed with much greater resources, and prosecutors enter courtrooms expecting convictions.
Were you or your loved one arrested or do you think that you could be under investigation for an alleged federal weapons crime in Fort Worth? Be sure that you exercise your right to remain silent until you have legal representation. The Law Offices of Richard C. McConathy defends both residents of and visitors to Tarrant County. The Dallas Morning News published an editorial in which the newspaper praised Dallas police Chief Eddie Garcia for urging officers to issue citations for marijuana possession instead of making arrests when less than 2 ounces are involved. The Morning News pointed out that the move has the potential to "rebuild fractured relationships with minority communities." "Garcia’s advisory signals that he is focused on efficiently redirecting limited police resources to where they are most needed — reducing serious violent crime," the Morning News wrote.
