In 1974, Greg Leach started Leach's Trash Service with a pickup truck and ten customers. Then in 1977, Greg and his wife Barb purchased Custom Trash Removal and acquired one truck and 150 customers. Today, Leach's Custom Trash Service operates eight trucks with a staff of five and has served thousands of customers throughout Cortland County and beyond. Greg and Barb manage the office at its current location, 1834 Route 13 in Cortland, where they've been since 1986. Leach's Custom Trash Service was the first trash removal service to offer curbside recycling when contracting with the Village of Homer. As a result, they were the first to take all recycled items each week and offer an economical price. Over the past 35 years, the Leach children have worked in the business alongside Greg and Barb, and two are currently employed at the company. There have been many changes in the industry, primarily two-way radios, computerization, credit card payments, and email invoicing and billing. But providing quality service and customer satisfaction has and will always the top priority.
