Please welcome our new Managing DVM, Dr. Melissa Derbin! Dr. Derbin is a 2011 Purdue graduate with a love for preventative care. She enjoys working with spay/neuter groups and rescues. She appreciates a team approach to patient care, and believes the staff are crucial to patient care. She and her husband purchased a horse farm and are looking forward to growing as a part of their new community. They moved with their 3 horses and 2 dogs, but are already talking about adding to the family: goats, llamas, chickens, maybe more! In her free time, Dr. Derbin enjoys painting and playing the piano. Additionally, when given the opportunity she and her husband vacation and like to go diving or camping/hiking. In addition to her years of experience, Dr Derbin also brings a new service to Leader Heights. We can now see your pocket pets! Call and schedule an appointment today!

Let’s talk about Theresa A. Theresa grew up on a small rural farm in York, PA. This is where her love for animals of all kinds started. Caring for and feeding all of the animals was never considered work to her. She preferred cleaning the barn over housework any day. With this love of all animals, it was fitting that she followed her heart and worked taking care of them. Starting as a kennel attendant in 1991, she learned the ropes and advanced to an Assistant followed by a Technician. Theresa lives in the same neighborhood she grew up in, sharing her home with her 2 dogs (Grover & Sir Arthur), 3 cats (Ilean, Shasta, & Daisy), horse (Hoss), donkey (Suzie), some chickens, and whatever else comes along in need of a home. Theresa’s hobbies include gardening, trail riding, hiking, and camping with her horse and dogs. Leave your comments and thank Theresa for being such a great technician at Leader Heights! We are so grateful to have her on our team!

Meet Jonna. One of our certified technicians here at LHAH Jonna graduated from St. Petersburg College in Florida with a degree in Veterinary Technology. She worked for almost 15 years as a CVT within the emergency veterinary field. She also has worked for a Board Certified Oncologist during that time. Jonna moved back to Pennsylvania with her husband and started as a technician at Leader Heights in 2013. She also holds a degree from Penn State for Wildlife Technology and currently just accomplished her next degree from Penn State, which is in the criminal justice field. She has taken on the additional role of Lead Client Service Specialist in 2016. Currently, Jonna’s family consists of her husband, son, and her four legged children; three dogs, a Guinea pig, and a turtle. She has always wanted to work with animals since she was a young child and feels she has been lucky to be able to follow her dream. Have you had the opportunity to interact with Jonna? Thank you to another member of the Allison family, Mike Allison, for a generous donation to our K9 team. Mike and his family visited the station, met Cerberus, and watch him do a little training with handler K9 Officer Mike Carpenter. Congratulations to K9 Cerberus for making his first arrest. A felony no less! Our K9 team was working when Corry Booker of Lancaster decided to drive intoxicated, wreck his car on private property in Hellam Township, and then flee the scene. K9 Officer Carpenter, K9 Cerberus, Officer Phillips, and two assisting Officers from Lower Windsor Police, Neff and Lawrence tracked Booker for over a mile until they found him hiding in a chicken coop. Booker exited the coop with a beer in hand, and was taken into custody without incident. This would be his fourth (4th) DUI, making this offense a felony. Everyone say… GOOD BOY! https://www.protection4paws.com/cruzinfork9s
