October is Eye Injury Prevention Month! Each year, thousands are affected by eye injuries, the majority of which could have been prevented by wearing proper protective eyewear & taking simple precautions. Believe it or not, half of eye injuries occur in our very homes!
How to Have Healthy Eyes You look through your eyes to see the glorious world around you, and your eye doctor looks into your eyes to see a view of your health. In addition to spotting the signs of ocular disease, conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, and possibly your risk for Alzheimer’s can also be detected by an eye exam at your eye clinic. https://www.lifetimevisioncare.net/2020/09/28/st-petersburg-how-to-have-healthy-eyes/
Parkinson’s and your Eyes A recent study based on U.S. Medicare records found that problems with vision are much more common in elderly people who suffer from Parkinson’s than in their peers. Additionally, these vision problems were associated with poorer general health outcomes. Data from more than 285,000 Parkinson’s patients were studied, and perhaps most noteworthy about all the results was that less than 60% of the people actually visited an eye clinic for yearly eye exams. https://www.lifetimevisioncare.net/2020/09/24/st-petersburg-vision-problems-are-common-in-older-parkinsons-patients/

Why Diabetic Eye Exams are Essential At present, one in 10 Americans has diabetes – and the trend is continuing upwards. While routine comprehensive eye exams are important for diagnosing the early signs of diabetes, that doesn’t mean eye exams become insignificant after diagnosis! https://www.lifetimevisioncare.net/2020/11/09/why-diabetic-eye-exams-are-essential-in-st-petersburg/
One of the best ways to give your eyes love is to get at least 7 - 9 hours of sleep a night. A good night’s rest keeps the eyes ready for the next day and can prevent eye spasms, dryness, itchiness, strain, and bloodshot eyes. It also prevents dark circles from appearing around the eyes — and let's be honest, who wants those?!
Why is it so important for diabetics to get a yearly eye exam? Not only does diabetes affect your body but it can also seriously damage your vision, potentially leading to vision loss. With the proper care, like getting a yearly dilated eye exam & maintaining a healthy diet, you can help keep your eyes healthy! Contact us to schedule your yearly dilated eye exam.

Remote Learning? Blue Light Glasses Can Protect Your Eyes In normal amounts, blue light can be beneficial for your health, setting your sleep-wake cycle and boosting your mood. But overexposure to blue light, especially when the source is digital devices, can increase certain health risks. In particular, it can strain your eyes and lead to a slew of painful symptoms. Nowadays, as the number of students learning remotely has risen dramatically, the damaging effects of blue light on eyes has become a hot topic. To protect and soothe your vision, our eye doctor near you recommends purchasing a pair of blue light glasses, available at our eye clinic. https://www.lifetimevisioncare.net/2020/11/29/st-petersburg-optometrist-protect-your-eyes/
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
Despite the pandemic this year, there are so many things to be grateful for: our wonderful patients, family, and friends—to name a few. Enjoy this time with loved ones and delight in the amazing feast. We wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
Sleeping in contact lenses increases your risk for eye infections by six to eightfold as it prevents the eyes from getting the proper oxygen and hydration it needs to fight bacteria.
We’ve officially entered the holiday season! And you know what that means... toy giving and sharing is in full swing! However, every year, thousands of children suffer from toy-related eye injuries. Before purchasing toys for that special child in your life, take a moment to consider: “is this toy age-appropriate and safe?”

It’s time for your eye exam!
As you prepare to chef-it-up this holiday season, keep this in mind as you chop up your next onion! A cut onion releases a gas called Propanethiol S-oxide, and when mixed with certain enzymes in the onion, it creates a sulfur gas that irritates the eyes and triggers your tear glands. Here's a tip: keep your onion refrigerated! Cold onion doesn't release that chemical compound as easily as it would if it were warm.
Rising Risks of Digital Eye Strain During Quarantine You and your kids are staying home, practicing social distancing in order to reduce the potential spread of Covid-19. It’s certainly the responsible, safe thing to do. However, the current stay-at-home lifestyle has also led to people spending more time on digital devices. Screen time is dedicated to both work and leisure, which keeps everyone busy and entertained, but unfortunately, it has also led to a higher rate of digital eyestrain and other vision complications. https://www.lifetimevisioncare.net/2020/12/08/st-petersburg-digital-eye-strain-relief/
