If you are interested to consider solar this year, we want to inform you about the current solar incentives available and what Lighthouse Solar is committed to offering for you.
Although solar installations are currently on hold, we fully expect to begin installations again in the near future. It takes 6-8 weeks from signing of contracts to acquire the necessary permits to begin an installation anyway, so now is a great time to consider solar again for 2020.
By around the end of May, the current rebate block offered by NYSERDA will drop from $.35 per watt to $.20 per watt. For example, this is worth $1,500 for a standard 10kW array. If you would like to consider signing a contract for solar in the next month, Lighthouse Solar will match this offer at an additional $.10 per watt, or $1,000 for a standard 10kW system.
Don't leave this money on the table! If you plan to be in your home for the foreseeable future, solar is an amazing, low-risk investment. Unlike any other type of "home improvement," you must pay a utility bill for your electricity, so why not cut that bill down to $0 and if you choose to finance, swap your utility bill for a solar loan that pays off in a few years? Here's an example of exactly how that breaks down in terms of financial value. If you currently consume 10,000 kWhs per year and the utility charges you $.15 per kWh (typical for Central Hudson customers), then you will pay at least $45,000 to the utility in the next 30 years, and that's assuming the utility rate stays flat. After incentives are applied, a solar system installed on a standard rooftop that produces the equivalent amount of electricity over 30 years, costs around $16,700. That's a savings of $28,300! Nothing beats the financial value of owning your power when it comes to solar. While there are variables at play, the same basic principle applies in every case. As long as you have an unshaded roof or ground location for solar (and you can use the tax credits), you will save tens of thousands of dollars by investing in clean energy.
If that's not enough, there are a couple of other reasons to consider solar now.
1) The federal tax credit will drop from 26% to 22% at the end of this year.
2) Net metering is scheduled to end this year in New York. Net metering gives you equal value for the solar electricity your solar produces. In other words, your account receives credits (kWhs) anytime your solar produces more than you consume, which typically happens during the day in the spring/summer/fall, and you use those credits (kWhs) when your solar is not producing (at night or winter months). If you install solar this year, you are locked into this high-value offer for 20 years.
