Today is World Rabies Day, and it's an important reminder that this deadly disease is still found all over the world. The good news is that rabies is 100% preventable. Take a moment to learn a little more about rabies in the United States from our friends at the American Veterinary Medical Association and be sure to talk to your family veterinarian about what you can do to protect your pet! #worldrabiesday

It's #NationalVeterinaryTechnicianWeek! We appreciate all of our veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants every day of the year! This special week allows us to publicly recognize their dedication to our hospital, patients, and clients. We value the selfless work they perform every day as they serve in numerous roles to care for the animals they love so much; x-ray technician, oral hygienist, laboratory technician, educator, anesthetist, meal prep, groomer, phlebotomist, janitor, dog walker, emotional support, cuddler, and more! Thank you for all you do! 🐾
Pregnancies in both dogs and cats can come with a lot of responsibility. You need to monitor the mothers very closely as they are coming into their due date. Marla, our French bulldog mom, came in yesterday because she is close to her due date and her temperature dropped (which can be an indication that she is coming into labor). After a visit with Dr. Avellini, it was determined that her pups are not ready to come out yet, but it is very important to continue monitoring. Some breeds (bulldog breeds especially) can have difficulties giving birth and require a C-section for the safety of the mom and pups. We hope to see 5 happy bulldog pups by the end of the weekend! Boo came in for a recheck exam with our orthopedic surgeon Dr. Diefenderfer after having cruciate surgery. The weather may have not been ideal, but Boo came in style wearing his adorable rain jacket. We think he has great modeling potential! As your general practitioner, we offer urgent and emergency care as well as general medicine and surgery. Should your pet require specialty surgery for orthopedic and soft tissue conditions, we can do that too. Just another reason Linwood Pet Hospital is able to be your everything. And the Ice Cream Cone is the winner! Congrats to Ashley and all of our staff for bringing their 'A Game' to the contest. Thank you all for helping us pick a winner, we know how hard it was to pick just one!
Say hello to our buddy, Dalton! This smiling guy came into our hospital exhibiting potential seizure activity. Seizures can occur in dogs for a variety of reasons including toxin exposure, brain tumors, trauma, low blood sugar, and more. Thankfully, Dalton didn't show any further signs of seizure activity while in our care. He is now recovering at home without any further complications. If your dog ever shows signs of seizures (disorientation, tremors, uncontrolled urination, loss of consciousness), contact our experienced team. They are available to assist by phone if you’re ever unsure about whether your pet is experiencing an emergency. “Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro? Can you tie ‘em in a knot? Can you tie ‘em in a bow?...” Syd was the best girl for her appointment with Dr. Lane. We sure love those ears!

Our patients range in size, but Berlin is big even for us! This happy Great Dane had several visits with Dr. Diefenderfer after coming in through our emergency department with wounds from a car incident. X-Rays revealed a radius/ulna fracture (bones in the forelimb) that required a splint and cage rest. Berlin might not have been too keen on the cage rest part, but his recheck radiographs show that he is improving well. We wish this big fella a continued speedy recovery! When you need us, we’ll be here. Linwood Pet Hospital provides urgent and emergency care, including surgery, 7 days a week from 8:00 am -midnight, as well as 24-hour nursing care and phone triage. Our receptionist, Keerstin, was more than happy to snuggle and entertain Miss Charleigh during her recent visit. Dr. Avellini was on the phone with Charleigh's parents and it gave these two an opportunity to bond. Who could resist?!
🦷 February is #NationalPetDentalHealthMonth! 🦷 Dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall well-being. Dental problems can cause, or be caused by, other health problems if left untreated. Your pet’s teeth and gums should be checked at least once a year by your primary care veterinarian for early signs of any issues. If your pet is exhibiting any of the following signs, be sure to get them checked out sooner rather than later: - Bad breath - Broken or loose teeth - Extra teeth or retained baby teeth - Teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar - Abnormal chewing, drooling or dropping food from the mouth - Reduced appetite or refusal to eat - Pain in or around the mouth - Bleeding from the mouth - Swelling in the areas surrounding the mouth Click here to learn more about our general dentistry service: https://bit.ly/3tFCmMg
Look at those pearly whites! Ms. Kahla is here to show off her smile and to let everyone know that February is National Pet Dental Health Month. If you schedule a dental cleaning for your pet during Dental Health Month, you'll receive 20% off. Telephone appointments must be made during February; actual procedure dates can take place at any time. Giving your pet a clean, healthy mouth will make you want to smooch your pooch and kiss your cat more often! Give us a call if you have any questions about your pet's teeth. We're open 7 days a week. #NationalPetDentalHealthMonth
It's National Golden Retriever Day! This breed is one of the most popular because of their calm temperament, intelligence, and playfulness. If you share your life with a Golden Retriever, we'd love to see a photo in the comments 👇
With the help of Dr. Keegan, a mobile cardiologist, Linwood Pet Hospital is proud to be able to provide cardiology appointments once a month. Not a general practice client with us? No problem! We are working with local veterinary practices to ensure your pet can receive the echocardiogram they need. Take Rex, for example. This handsome little Sphynx was referred to us by his primary veterinarian after a heart murmur was detected, and a recommendation was made to follow up with a cardiologist. Rex was a wonderful patient for his echocardiogram and his owner got a sigh of relief that his heart murmur is nothing major. If your pet is in need of a cardiology consult and you and/or your primary care veterinarian would like more information, please give us a call!
