Let's talk games! 🍬Candy Land🍭 is one of our favorite games at Little Miracles Pediatric Therapy Center because we can change the game to work on different things- and so can YOU at home. One way to do so is to create sensory bins and hide the cards in the bins so that each time your child draws a card they do so from a bin. (Bins can be filled with dry beans, tissue paper, cotton balls, shredded paper, or Easter grass, just to name a few) This adds a fun tactile experience for children who are sensitive to touch and also adds a fun avenue of exploration to the game to hold your child's attention longer. 'Sturdy Birdy' game is great for promoting body awareness and balance and it is easy to modify this game for younger kids as well. Re-usable sticker pads promote vocabulary development, concept development, expressive language, etc. They are versatile, low cost, and very durable!
Two more GREAT Christmas gift ideas for you! Our therapists love to use Play-dough to help children learn vocabulary words including verbs, prepositions, size words, numbers, shaped, and colors. It is also great for hand strengthening! A tunnel is another great gift for toddlers and preschoolers as it promotes crawling for improved motor coordination and strength.
Games make great gifts, especially while kids are spending time at home over the holidays or home schooling. We want to share with you some of favorite games to help with your Christmas shopping! "Sequence for Kids" - this is a great game that works on visual perception with locating the animals on the board, and works on fine motor manipulation with the pieces.

What does this certification mean? According to our Child Care Center Director, Cassie, Step 3 Quality Rated programs provide a safe and healthy environment where children are offered a variety of materials to support play and learning experiences for children with different interests and abilities. During Step 3, the teachers at Little Miracles learned how to provide meaningful activities and experiences that build upon children's strengths and development. They use a curriculum to plan activities and guide teaching practices which align with the North Dakota Early Learning Standards. They also implement an observation-based assessment system to ensure children are making progress toward the goals outlined in their curriculum. The teachers learn how to interpret their observation-based assessments to help build on the skills the children are learning. #littlemiraclesinc #childcare

The kids had fun with this sensory experience. They were in control! They took turns adding the lotion and mixing/kneading it with their hands, helping build strength in their fingers and hands. This science fun encourages sensory play, fine motor development, open ended play, ad creativity.
