MATURITY ALTERS NUTRITIONAL VALUE
We all know there is a difference in texture, color, aroma, flavor between green, ripe yellow, and over-ripe brown spotted bananas
But did you know that fruit maturity also affects its nutritional content... 🤔🙄
Let's take a look
* Green Bananas
Or as you could say, under-ripe bananas are firm because they are packed with complex carbohydrates and fiber.
They are also less sweet to the taste because they do actually contain less sugar (=lower glycemic index)
This green snack will keep you full for longer, help digestion and feed your microbiome.
* Yellow Bananas
By this stage, the complex carbs are leaving space for more sugar. And even though the fruit will have developed more antioxidants, the sugar level will have considerably increased 😬
* Brown Bananas
By the time your banana's skin has acquired brown spots, it resembles a 'sugar-bomb' 🍡🍭🍨
At this stage, the fruit will have reached it's highest glycemic index and will considerably spike your blood sugar levels upon consumption 🍌🍌🍌
So, the healthiest time to consume a banana is when it's green

Let’s talk fluctuations today.
So you wake up, jump on the scales, normal morning routine and….WHAT?? My weight has jumped up 2 pounds. 2 POUNDS!! Are you for real? I’ve done everything right? How can I put on that much fat overnight?
Grab the reins, reel it in and take a seat. There are SOOOO many explanations for this to happen and as you may have heard me say before: “Nothing is ever linear”.
Number 1: Carbohydrate storage.
If you had a slightly higher carb day the day before, your body stores carbs within your liver and muscles. Yes this varies between person obviously on the amount you stored BUT if you nailed those calories but had more carbs, please take a moment to welcome WATER to the party! For every gram of glycogen that is stored, we can then hold up to 4 times that in water.
Sodium:
When we have a high intake in sodium, our bodies can increase it’s WATER retention.
Digestive System:
Our intestines can hold a lot of excessive baggage. If it has been time before we have gotten rid of some of the waste products then this stored up, can all be a reason the scales are smirking this morning at weigh in.
Menstrual Cycle:
The time of the month can cause water retention and I’ve had clients where the scales have paused all week and then post week, it has dropped and continued to showcase their hard earned results.
Dehydration:
Sometimes we may have a HUGE drop in weight. Maybe we had a few drinks last night or life took over and we just didn’t consume much H20. This dehydration can be the reason for the over exaggerated drop in body weight. When consuming alcohol, we release more fluid in our urine than we actually consume, leaving us in a fluid deficit!
Time:
Weigh before the bathroom? Or After the bathroom? Or eat later than usual last night? It’s gonna be different for sure!
