Do your gums bleed when you brush? Or when you use dental floss?
That is, if you floss. 🤓
What causes the bleeding? Is some pink in the sink normal?
The short answer is no. Healthy gums do not bleed.
The long answer is that gum tissue that is inflamed and irritated by plaque and tartar will readily bleed with normal brushing and flossing.
Tartar that is hiding beneath the gumline is often the culprit. No amount of brushing can get rid of tartar calcified on your teeth. Soft plaque left behind after hurried brushing is another cause for tender, swollen, and bleeding gums.
If you are experiencing any of these concerns, an appointment with your dental hygienist is a must. Regular dental cleanings are very important for overall health!

Dr. Lohr and Dr. Throckmorton start seeing infants 👶 🍼 within six months of the first tooth 🦷 eruption. They complete knee to knee exams in order to to check for normal growth and development. Time is spent with the parent or caregiver discussing any concerns and addressing diet or feeding questions or concerns giving parents tips on oral hygiene habits and routines.
Our goal is to make your child's visit fun and comfortable and to teach your little one to not fear the dental office, but to look forward to their visit! ☺️😷

Most people brush their teeth one or two times per day. 😁
Unfortunately, many people have simple errors in their technique that can cause some serious consequences including gingivitis, cavities, and gum recession. 🥺 Correction of these can prevent some serious oral problems.
Here are the top three mistakes some people routinely make when brushing their teeth. 🤔
1. The toothbrush bristles are not reaching the gumline.
Result: plaque left at the gumline causing inflammation of the gums, also known as gingivitis.
2. Skipping before bed brushing 😱
Result: plaque left on all the teeth, causing initiation of the cavity process and gingivitis.
3. Brushing too hard or using a hard bristle toothbrush.
Result: damage to the delicate gum tissue causing permanent recession and exposure of sensitive root surfaces of teeth.
Summary: Use a soft bristle toothbrush twice a day, brushing for two minutes focusing on the gumline, using a gentle technique. Before bed brushing is important to control bacteria and plaque when salivary flow is deceased.

This position is for a registered dental assistant holding a valid Iowa license, RDA, EFDA, or CDA/RDA. The ideal candidate would have some chairside dental assisting experience and a willingness to obtain their EFDA. This role in our office is dynamic as we have two full time doctors with a rotating assistant schedule.
Responsibilities and Duties
Greeting and seating patients in a warm and friendly manner
Preparing treatment rooms for patient care
Sterilizing instruments
Making digital radiographs and taking intraoral photos
Making preliminary impressions
Assisting the doctor chairside
Turning over and disinfecting treatment rooms
Excellent documentation of procedures and materials used in patients' charts
Taking inventory of supplies for order and stocking treatment rooms
At times this position will require scheduling appointments, answering the phone, and taking payments.
Qualifications and Skills
The candidate must have a strong work ethic. We are a busy office. The ideal applicant must be a team player with a positive attitude who takes pride in excellent patient care. We are looking for an applicant who is compassionate and caring towards every patient. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and meticulous with infection control.
