Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are experts in the treatment of facial bone fractures and often participate in taking care of the local community by taking facial trauma call at local hospitals. Despite social distancing for the COVID pandemic, accidents still happen and patients still require our help. Here is a glimpse of a few of the recent mandibular trauma cases we have been called to treat. Stay tuned for the post-operative results in future posts. #facialtrauma #OMS #omfs #winthrophospital #jawfracture #mandible #mandiblefractures
Long Island Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is happy to introduce Dr. Brian Wolf to our family. Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Wolf completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland and went on to complete his doctorate at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. After school, Dr. Wolf completed additional training programs at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Nassau University Medical Center. In addition to the years of formalized training, what makes Dr. Wolf a perfect fit here at LIOMS is the sympathy and compassion he treats his patients with. Dr. Wolf makes it a point to treat his patients as if they are family. The case shown here is one such example of a patient who suffered a terrible trauma and whose family trusted Dr. Wolf and his team, @numcomfs , with their care. #oms #omfs #numc #facialtrauma #stryker #winthrop #facialfractures
Long Island Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, PC updated their website address.
“When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.” This phrase, typically heard at training institutions, was coined by a Dr. Theodore Woodward while teaching his residents that the more commonplace diagnosis is most often the correct one, rather than a much more obscure disease (“zebra”) being responsible. The photos included show a patient who presented with floor of mouth swelling with CT scan revealing radio-opaque lesion in the floor of mouth initially suggestive of a sialolith (salivary stone). However, surgical exploration and biopsy revealed a malignant tumor (mucoepidermoid carcinoma) with rare intratumoral bone formation (a zebra!). This case demonstrates that while the most commonplace diagnoses are often correct, doctors must remain vigilant to avoid potentially devastating misdiagnoses. In the spirit of Thanksgiving-eve we wanted to give thanks for our wonderful patients. The ability to provide care and see patients get better makes our jobs worthwhile and meaningful. Seeing gratitude from the patients is the cherry on top. We are privileged to work in the amazing community that we do and will continue to provide the highest quality of care that every patient deserves. #thanksgiving #thankful #holidayseason #OMFS #facialsurgery #oralsurgery #dentalsurgery #patientcare #portwashington #mineola #LIOMS
I wanted to give a little shout out today for an organization I am thankful for. The Osteo Science Foundation is devoted to improving maxillofacial regenerative medicine. They provide podcasts, webinars, and research dedicated to topics that affect our everyday practice in dental medicine. Where they really go above and beyond is with the opportunities they provide residents @numcomfs. My experience in their Clinical Observership Program with Advanced Oral & Facial Surgery of the Triad, Teresa Biggerstaff, DDS, MD allowed me to see how this research can be applied to help patients optimize treatment. I look forward to attending this zoom toast! #knowledgeispower #bonegrafting #implantdentistry #implants #OMS #omfs #maxillofacialsurgeon

A little Monday morning humor. While the function of a few of these "vestigial structures" remain controversial at best; the problems that they can cause are quite clear and can be very serious. #oralsurgery #wisdomteethremoval #wisdomteeth #OMS #oralandmaxillofacialsurgery #Mineola #portwashington

#repost North Shore Animal League America This is Eddie, a miniature pinscher with some familiar looking facial hardware. He was taken to the North Shore Animal League with a broken lower jaw likely caused by dental neglect. The fracture was repaired with an ExFix (external fixator) device. This device essentially acts as an external cast to stabilize the jaw bone while it heals. ExFix is utilized in select cases for humans as well. Incredible work by the doctors involved. Check out eddie's progress and help support his treatment! #helpeddieheal #teameddie #jawfractures #doggietrauma #veterinarian #portwashington #jawsurgery #longisland
Thankful and Grateful. So thankful for the hardworking and efficient staff at NYU-LI for getting us the COVID vaccine. This is a monumental time in human history and the doctors at LIOMS are privileged to be a part of the solution. 2020 has been a tragic year and we will never forget the lives lost and families affected by this horrible pandemic. We are hopeful that the vaccine is the beginning of the end of the pandemic and as a community we can begin to heal and look forward to a brighter future in 2021. #thankyou #NYULangone #longislandny #onestepcloser #covidvaccine #facialtraumateam #longislandoralsurgery #OralMaxillofacialSurgeon #omfs
