A North Dakota farmer's neighbors stepped up to harvest his crops for him after he suffered a heart attack in his field. Lane Unhjem was harvesting his wheat and canola crops when his combine caught fire. As Unhjem battled the blaze, he suffered a heart attack in the field. When his neighbors heard what happened, about 60 of them coordinated to finish the job for him -- bringing 11 combines, six-grain carts, and 15 tractor-trailers to harvest Unhjem's crops. The neighbors said they knew that letting the crops go unharvested would have been devastating for his family. It took them seven hours to harvest 1,000 acres.
"This sort of thing happens all the time when health issues arise, accidents happen, and needs are noticed, that’s when rural people shine. You help your neighbor out when they need it, and don’t expect anything in return", said a family friend.

While most people are sound asleep, Pat Gardner and Longhorn employees form an assembly line at the Airway Heights restaurant, scrambling eggs, making burritos, and frying bacon. They’re up against the clock. By 2 a.m., all this food needs to be on a truck heading to the hardworking firefighters battling wildfires.
“The firefighters are putting their lives on the line. I respect what they’re doing. They need nutrition to keep going,” said Pat Gardener, a breakfast cook at Longhorn.
Since last week, Longhorn has made and individually packed over a thousand homemade breakfasts for firefighters.
Longhorn makes sure firefighters are eating well, from breakfast burritos to sausage links and scrambled eggs. In addition to breakfast, Longhorn is also adding granola bars, yogurt, coffee, and juice.
“The firefighters have been helping us across the state; the least we can do is help them out. It’s a good feeling to give back to our community,” said Pat.

After 63-year-old grandma Wanda Dench accidentally invited 21-year-old Jamal Hinton to her family's Thanksgiving dinner instead of her actual grandson back in 2016, the young man and her family have made it a tradition to always share the holiday together. This year's celebration is a little different, however, after the passing of Wanda's husband.

Each year the Chapel at Fairchild Airforce Base orders Thanksgiving meals to feed officers in training at the Survival School. Chaplain Schutzius and Officer Phillips picked up enough food to feed 150 people.
