Saturday morning at the Orange County Jail was worth the trip: client released.
Happy for our client that we were able to get this case dropped quickly and efficiently. Our client was thrilled that justice ultimately prevailed. View this and other case results on our website: https://www.longwelllawyers.com/Case-Results.aspx
Anyone who has ever handled a Formal Review Hearing at DHSMV knows how challenging it can be. Despite those challenges, we were able to get our client’s license reinstated after a Formal Review Hearing challenging the validity of the suspension for refusing a breath test. Next goal in the case is getting the DUI dropped.
Happy Friday! We have awesome stuff for you: coffee mugs, tote bags, hand sanitizer, t-shirts and pens. Stop by our office during regular business hours (on the 18th floor of 390 N. Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando) and we will load you up with complimentary Longwell Lawyers paraphernalia. Have a great weekend.
Longwell Lawyers is celebrating our two year work anniversary with Marcela Orjuela, who is an amazing part of our team. Thank you, Marcela, for everything that you do. We are grateful and honored to work with you. Looking forward to a bright future together.
We are enjoying some Monday morning treats provided to us by one of our appreciative clients. Longwell Lawyers is ready for an awesome week! 💪
We appreciate our client's great reviews.
Today we are thrilled to celebrate the world's greatest boss, Mark Longwell, and our fierce and fearless Business Manager, Amy Saunders! Happy Boss's Day!
Congratulations to Attorney Benjamin Jones on a successful morning in court. Before retaining Longwell Lawyers, his client sat in jail for 4 months on multiple charges without bond. This morning, one week after retaining our services, Benjamin attended a hearing on a Motion to Set Bond. Result: Motion granted ✅.
Our attorneys are constantly striving to achieve new goals and enhance their knowledge of every aspect of the law we practice. Today we want to congratulate Attorney Carmen Tankersley on completing the first step towards becoming a certified family law mediator. Carmen has completed the 40-hour Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediation Training Program. Longwell Lawyers is honored to have Attorney Tankersley as part of our team and applauds her dedication to her profession.
Courts are gradually opening their doors to in-person hearings again. That means our attorneys are on the move in and around Central Florida. This morning, Attorney Benjamin Jones is at the historic Titusville Courthouse. This courthouse was built in 1912 as the first courthouse of Brevard County and presently remains in use for various court functions.
Happy Veteran's Day! 🇺🇸
Our client was the long-time City Manager for a city in Lake County, Florida. Despite his highly effective and successful tenure as the City Manager, one of the City Council-members became upset with him when he made cost cutting recommendations that would negatively impact the job of the City Council-member’s spouse. After a City Council meeting, our client was angrily confronted outside the building by the Council-member and her spouse. The spouse became physically aggressive. The Council-member realized that a by-stander was recording the incident, prompting the Council-member to falsely claim that she had been struck by our client and that her spouse was only protecting her. Unbelievably, the Council-member and her spouse were able to coax the Police Chief (who did not view the video) to arrest the City Manager for a felony charge of Battery on a Public Official and a misdemeanor charge of Disorderly Conduct. Longwell Lawyers was retained to represent the accused City Manager in this highly contentious, publicized matter. After gathering and presenting the case to the prosecutor (which included several sworn statements from eyewitnesses and video footage of the incident), it became clear that the accused City Manager did not commit any crime – and he was exonerated. As such, all charges were dropped by the filing of a No Information Notice.

Tragic Fatal Traffic Homicide Investigation Results in No Charges -
Our client was allegedly involved in a motor vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality. After a lengthy Traffic Homicide Investigation was completed, our client was properly not charged with Vehicular Manslaughter. However, our client received an infraction for Failing to Yield (Fatality), which would have resulted in a license suspension. At a hearing today, that infraction was dismissed. We are mindful of the tragedy involved in this case, but are thankful our client was able to receive a fair and appropriate outcome.
Result: No criminal charges filed/infraction dismissed.

I'm super satisfied and appreciated. Although it was difficult and emotional for me, you all made it easier for me to continue. There's no words on how appreciated I am and how happy I am to have my life back." #HappyAttorney #longwelllawyers

The Attorney was indeed not a cat. Animals seem to be a recurring theme in the legal field. A good example is a Louisiana Court finding that "give me a lawyer, dog " means that the alleged is requesting a dog-lawyer.

Just leaving the Lake County Courthouse. Although a blustery storm is brewing outside, I am feeling nothing but sunshine and happiness. Very happy for our client that a long, hard-fought battle over some extremely serious charges (albeit way overcharged and flimsy) is finally over, and that our client will be released today.

Florida’s Chief Justice Charles Canady has issued an administrative order authorizing some remote criminal jury trials as COVID-19 pandemic conditions persist around the state. This order extends a similar authorization issued in June 2020 for some civil trials.
Under the order, the defendant must agree to the remote trial, and trial judges must consider the views of prosecutors and victims. Remote jury trials must be conducted under requirements & evaluation criteria developed by a COVID-19 Workgroup.
Canady on March 13, 2020, suspended jury trials around the state to protect the health of participants and the public from transmission of the coronavirus.
The move toward remote “virtual” hearings is a major historical shift in state court operations, which have relied heavily on in-person proceedings since Florida became a state in 1845.
All state court coronavirus emergency orders and advisories are linked on the Florida Supreme Court’s website: https://www.floridasupremecourt.org/Emergency

We know that many of our colleagues are confused about what each county is doing for court during COVID. 🤔
They are unsure whether you can or cannot set in-person evidentiary hearings or how you are supposed to admit evidence? 🤨
Are they doing trials, are masks required? 😩
Our very own Attorney Ben Jones and his colleagues will be moderating this informative lunchtime Zoom event. Where you can hear from the judges themselves as to many of your current covid questions. 👍🏻

Where were you in 1993? Bill Clinton started his first term as President, “Whoomp, there it is!” debuted on the music charts, Google was still five years from being a thing, people mostly didn’t have cell phones (let alone smartphones), 90210 and Melrose Place were hit shows, and Longwell Lawyers was born! After working as an Assistant State Attorney in the 9th Judicial Circuit of Florida, Mark Longwell opened a law firm on March 1, 1993, that is proudly still going strong today. Happy 28th Anniversary, Longwell Lawyers!
Burglary/Robbery, what's the difference? It is common to use these terms interchangeably, but they are distinctly two different types of crime. Both involve unlawful taking of property, but one involves the use of violence/force. Find out what the differences are here:
