Did you know our own Dr. Vandervort came to our practice after serving for 20 years in the United States Navy? He began his career in 1989 as a general dentist and served on board the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk(CV-63) where he deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1993 in support of Operation Southern Watch. Dr. Vandervort then obtained his medical degree from Georgetown University before completing his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He then served on board the aircraft carrier USS George Washington(CVN-73) as the ship’s Oral Surgeon while once again deploying to the Persian Gulf in 2002 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Vandervort then served his final six years of active duty as a member of the teaching staff at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center where he was the director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program. Dr. Vandervort retired in 2009 with the rank of Captain. He will forever feel fortunate to have served alongside the greatest men and women of the United States of America’s armed forces.
