Our residents enjoy the fun and interactive activities here but really love coloring. Coloring may seem childish to some or boring to others. Coloring in itself is a positive outlet no matter your age. There are many benefits of coloring for seniors. According to the website Art Therapy Coloring "The primary theory behind why coloring has so many of the same benefits as meditation has to do with concentration. When you meditate, you sit in silence and concentrate on one thing: your breath, or a flame, or even just the act of letting your thoughts go as they arise. Given these similarities, it is not surprising to find that there have been studies showing that coloring can help to preserve brain function. The more in the habit you are of concentrating, the sharper your brain stays. Concentrating is a skill, and it does not really matter what you are concentrating on." Coloring can also be very calming for seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's. Coloring can bring back positive memories of childhood. 💚

Today we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was a vital leader of the American civil rights movement and a catalyst for change, racial equality, and justice for all. Dr. King's leadership brought about meaningful progress and his enduring message is a reminder of the importance of servitude. Dr. King once proclaimed to a crowd in Alabama, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?" His call-to-action is more relevant now than it has ever been for our Enlivant community. We have a shared responsibility to help end the pandemic and create a sense of inclusion and belonging for all residents and employees. As an act of service, we call on you to help us protect our communities and each other, and do your part in getting the COVID-19 vaccine when it is available to you. We are committed to being the change we want to see in this world. We hope you can spend a few minutes today reflecting on Dr. King's message of peace and equality and bringing these ideas to life alongside us. #MLK
