💌 Hello Patients and Families!
⚠️ PLEASE READ POST IN FULL 🙂
🎉 It’s been a while! We are happy to see many of you back in our office (safely, healthfully, and while wearing masks!) for check-ups as the school year has begun.
We will continue to keep you all informed regarding:
1) any changes to scheduling office visits during respiratory season and
2) once we obtain the 2020/2021 flu vaccine to offer our annual flu clinics by appointment only.
Flu clinics will be run very differently than in prior years with social distancing and set appointment times. We will add additional days and times as need be. We are expecting to have the 2020-2021 flu vaccine available for select insurance providers (United Healthcare, BCBS, Cigna, etc.) hopefully within one week 🤞🏼
‼️ Please call to inquire about availability and your insurance coverage PRIOR to making an appointment ‼️
Flu Clinic Dates:
🗓 September 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, 30th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
💉 We will also be scheduling nurse visits during normal office hours Tuesday - Thursday for flu vaccines once available.
💉 Getting the flu vaccine is more important than ever during a worldwide pandemic. But, the flu can be dangerous too. Did you know that during the 2017-2018 flu season, on average 1 child died every day from the flu and of the 165 pediatric deaths, 50% of these children were otherwise healthy.
💉 Vaccines save lives!
🧠 Suicide Prevention Month
❓FOLLOW UP: Studies have also shown that brief, low cost intervention and supportive, ongoing contact may be an important part of suicide prevention, especially for individuals after they have been discharged from hospitals or care services.
If you think someone might be considering suicide, take the last step and #bethe1to follow up with them. It can make all the difference.
📞 Don’t forget - Lowry Pediatrics is proud to offer behavioral health management and resources to our patients and families.
🧠 Suicide Prevention Month
❓HELP THEM CONNECT: Studies indicate that helping someone at risk create a network of resources and individuals for support and safety can help them take positive action and reduce feelings of hopelessness.
If you think someone might be considering suicide, #bethe1to help them connect to resources. Help them build a support system, including @800273TALK, family, friends, clergy, coaches, co-workers, teachers, or therapists.
📞 Don’t forget - Lowry Pediatrics is proud to offer behavioral health management and resources to our patients and families.
📢 We have received more flu vaccine doses into clinic - if you previously were NOT able to get a vaccine due to your insurance plan, please call us to schedule an appointment! 💉

🙈 Kids are made to play!
😝 Play is not just for kids old enough to walk and talk. Play with your newborn by practicing tummy time, showing your infant around the house (pointing out objects, shapes, colors), and focusing on face-to-face play. Babies love faces! Don’t be shy - be silly!
🏀 Independent play can help stimulate your child’s creativity and problem solving skills. It even increases confidence. With independent play, kiddos often learn what they are good at - sports, cooking, writing, among others.
🎨 Give them more than just a screen! When they are done playing, ask about their experience or what they’ve created. Examples of un-structured play can be playing on the jungle gym, playing dress up, exploring the outdoors. Toddlers should spend at least 1 hour per day with unstructured play
📚 Structured play requires a child to follow directions or rules, and is guided by an adult. For example, board games, puzzles, team sports.
🔮 What is your favorite way to engage and play with your child?

Explaining the News to Our Kids
😴 Limit screens in the bedroom, as blue light interrupts the ability for our brains to release melatonin to induce sleepiness. Screens also tempt your teen to stay up late interacting with friends on social media. We recommend turning off screens 1 hour before bed if possible to give time to wind down!
😴 Regular exercise helps you sleep more soundly. Ideally 60 minutes daily - even better if you can get outside for some sunlight. However, try to avoid exercise within a few hours of bedtime.
😴 Eliminate caffeinated drinks.
😴 Sleep schedule is key! Try to encourage your teen to go to bed and wake up around the same time on school nights AND non-school nights. This time shouldn’t vary by more than an hour or two.
😴 There is no such thing as sleeping in on the weekends to “catch up” on lost sleep during the week!
😴 Avoid naps, especially late in the afternoon.
😴 Use the bed only for sleeping - not for studying or other alert activities.
😴 Keep your teens room dark, quiet, and cool. Set the stage for sleep.
