M/E Engineering's healthcare team completed a High Pressure Steam Boiler Replacement at Buffalo General Medical Campus for Kaleida Health. The Boiler Plant provides heating and process steam for Buffalo General Hospital, Oishei Children's Hospital, Gates Vascular Institute University at Buffalo. The new boiler approximately doubled the capacity of the existing boiler within a similar footprint, while improving efficiency, redundancy, reliability and emissions.

M/E performed a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model for HOLT Architects for their Ithaca, New York office. As with many firms, HOLT was planning to have their employees return to the office and were concerned with their personal safety. The leadership wanted to evaluate the impact a person having Covid-19 would have on others in the same space. This study took into account the building HVAC system, furniture layout, air flows and office configuration. Two scenarios were presented - one with a person not wearing a mask and one with the same person with a mask. See the link in the article to see the results.
M/E Engineering can perform a similar study for your facility using your particular criteria as a tool for office re-entry policies. Please note, while these tools provide great insight into how airborne pathogens can spread, any implementations performed based on these evaluations will in no way eliminate the potential for exposure to these airborne pathogens.

Emergency Preparedness Planning, in light of the current global pandemic and the tremendous efforts in managing the spread of COVID-19, is at the forefront of M/E Engineering. We have been closely following infectious aerosols guidance from ASHRAE and ASHE in order to gain a strong understanding of the issues and potential impact of changes to building operations to reduce airborne exposures for our clients. M/E Engineering was looking for a meaningful way to connect seniors in our community who may be isolated during these trying times with our brave frontline workers during the holiday season. Working with assisted living facilities across the state, M/E Engineering was able to engage and connect over 800 seniors directly with frontline workers at St. Peter's Health Partners, Kaleida Health and ECMC through our "Heartfelt Thanks Holiday Cards" campaign.
“Our seniors and those in higher risk categories have certainly felt the brunt of the pandemic, having to restrict their activities to avoid the risk of infection. At the same time, our first responders, educators, and those in the medical professions are on the frontlines, and have been challenged to perform their jobs with a greater sense of care and caution," said Michael Sullivan, Partner of our Schenectady, NY office who spearheaded the campaign. "We thought there might be an opportunity to bring these groups together and acknowledge their efforts."
