Shane Dawson, MD, FACS, is an accomplished surgeon serving patients from in and around New York’s Upper East Side. As one of the most highly sought-after surgeons in the area, he’s had the honor of making positive changes in hundreds of lives and finds his work deeply fulfilling.
Dr. Dawson earned his bachelor’s degree at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and his medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
Upon completion of medical school he relocated to New York City for his residency in surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. He then furthered his surgical training and expertise by completing fellowship training in surgical critical care medicine at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Board certification in both general surgery and critical care medicine exemplify Dr. Dawson’s commitment to educational excellence. Now in practice for nearly two decades, he continues to seek out opportunities to learn about new surgical tools and techniques that further expand his ability to provide top-quality services to those in his care, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery techniques.
Dr. Dawson strives to build relationships with his patients. He understands that the more familiar he becomes with their unique health needs, lifestyle, and expectations for treatment, the better equipped he is to deliver optimal results. Dr. Dawson personalizes every treatment plan and is flexible enough to accommodate unexpected changes.
Patient education is also central to Dr. Dawson’s practice. He takes the time to explain each surgical procedure and how it serves the patient’s overall health goals. That insight enables patients to make informed decisions about their own care.
