Here are some Fun Facts about Pumpkins to get you excited about carving some pumpkins this weekend:
- Due to accessibility in large numbers, pumpkins were adopted as a beer ingredient during the Colonial period. Malt wasn't always available, and the Pilgrims used pumpkins as a fermentable sugar.
- Though they are also a member of the gourd family -- which includes watermelon and winter squash -- pumpkins are technically fruits, not vegetables, due to their seeds.
- It is believed that the carving of Jack-O'-Lanterns began in Ireland with turnips. Irish immigrants brought the practice to the United States, where people carved a more plentiful and cheaper option: Pumpkins.

Recently, Mason and the rest of our fleet had been sent home due to the weather. Shortly after, we received an emergency call near Mason’s location. We asked him if he would be willing to run the call since he was close, and the on-call tech was over an hour away. He willingly accepted the challenge and provided an impressive level of understanding.
That instance is just a glance into what Mason brings to the table. He is constantly looking out for the company and his fellow coworkers.
