This week’s exercise highlight demonstrates Chair Squats. Chair squats are a great way to address Glut, Quad and core strength. It also improves safety with transfers if a patient is unsteady or weak with getting in/out of a chair. You should use a sturdy chair that will not easily slide on the floor. Begin standing with the back of your knees lightly touching the chair. Pull in your lower abdominals and slightly tuck your pelvis under. Make sure your buttocks shift backwards so that your weight is more in your heels, not your toes. Slowly lower down into a partial squat like you would to sit in the chair but not all the way down. Squeeze your Buttock muscles as you return to stand. Perform this exercise slowly and in a controlled manner. Be sure that your knees don’t shift forward over your toes. Do not allow your lower back to arch too much. You can bring your arms out in front of you for balance if needed. Perform ~10 repetitions to start. Contact us today to schedule a comprehensive evaluation with one of our highly skilled Doctors of Physical Therapy!
This week’s exercise highlight demonstrates how to perform Bridging. Bridging is a comprehensive exercise that targets the gluteal & hamstring muscles. It also strengthens the abdominals & core muscles. These are important for supporting & stabilizing our trunk, pelvis and legs with movement. Begin lying on your back with your knees bent & your feet hip width apart. Pull in your lower abdominal muscles & squeeze your buttock muscles. Lift your hips up off of the floor. Initially hold for ~5 seconds and then slowly lower down. Perform ~10 repetitions. Do not let your lower back arch. Exercise highlight of the week! This video show’s how to perform the ‘Bird Dog’ exercise. Begin on all fours on a cushioned surface with your arms directly under you shoulders and knees directly under your hips. Pull in your lower Abdominals. Then raise one leg in line with your body parallel to the floor & then raise the opposite arm. Hold for ~5 seconds. Make sure to look between your hands to keep your Neck flat & do not let your low back arch. Maintain your hips level. This exercise can address core, hip, neck and shoulder blade weaknesses that contribute to many spine problems! Exercise highlight of the week! This video show’s how to do foam rolling to your Hamstring muscles. If you’ve been exercising more or even if you are sitting all day for work, your Hamstrings can become tight and decrease your mobility. This exercise can help to loosen the Hamstrings(back of the thigh muscles). Hamstring tightness can contribute to many knee, hip and back problems! Exercise Tips: Do not roll over any Bony areas. Roll for ~1-2 minutes on each side. Contact us today to schedule a comprehensive evaluation with one of experienced & highly knowledgeable Physical Therapists! #mptw

Hey, just me and my favorite model. Your pelvic floor is responsible for so many important functions. If any of these are problematic we can help! * Support - pelvic floor provides support of the pelvic organs including bladder, uterus, rectum. * Stability - pelvic floor is part of your core and coordinates with your diaphragm, abdominals, and back muscles. Many people with back or hip pain have pelvic floor dysfunction. * Sphincter control - pelvic floor muscles relax to allow voiding and contract to maintain continence. * Sexual function - for relaxing with penetration and strength is needed for orgasm. #MPTWellness #pelvicPT

It was an exciting week at MPTW - we have all been vaccinated! We are thrilled to be able protect not only ourselves, but also all of you who come to see us and have trusted us throughout this year. We will still be following all precautions and continuing to wear masks, wash our hands, and encourage social distancing. We know the road is still a long one, but this week is one of so much hope! #mptw #PTsvaccinatingtogether
