Hello Manzano family,
We have received several questions about our COVID policy and wanted to update everyone.
At this time, very few of our staff members have been vaccinated and it looks that late spring may be when it is opened up to the remainder of the staff. From conversations with many of you, it seems our greater clientele are also still waiting on their vaccines. As there is no ethical/legal way to ask who has/has not been vaccinated, as this is a private medical decision, we have no way to certify who can/cannot enter the building. It also will create confusion here at the practice when we seem inconsistent and let some people in but not others.
In all likelihood, we will not reopen the doors to clients in the building until the governor has moved us to a green status and the bulk of our staff is vaccinated. We have had a few unintentional exposures with positive clients in the clinic that has forced testing upon our staff. We also had a COVID exposure that forced closure for two weeks. It is our fervent desire to not close the doors again and it is making us choose the best of bad situations- for now that looks like continuing curbside.
Like many of you, our schedule has been an ongoing source of frustration for many of us at the practice. As curbside takes longer per appointment, it has made it very difficult to add additional appointments. We understand how hot the cars are in the summer and how cold in the winter and we feel for those clients trapped in the elements waiting for care. We are trying to move pets in-and-out in a safe, timely manner but the process is time consuming and not without struggles. It is not our ideal to separate owners and their babes but we have no good way to protect both our extended family and our team with traditional appointments; we have tried, and failed, and had to settle for curbside. We have opened up our availability with drop-off appointments to try to accommodate a wider range of schedules but we understand that this appointment type is not ideal for all clients/ pets. We have limited our practice to established clients only so that we can prioritize our current family; in many cases, we are booking 2-3 weeks out for routine appointments and 1-2 months out for some routine surgeries; this is so that it leaves us the ability to accommodate sick pets who need emergent care.
This has been an incredibly frustrating and heart-rending journey. Moving to curbside, practicing remote medicine, adding a barrier of a phone, developing new protocols, the constant uncertainty has been trying and difficult; certainly the staff has felt the pressure and many of our extended family members, our clientele, have as well. Words cannot express enough how grateful our team has been for the general kindness, understanding, and willingness to adapt that has been seen from so many of our friends. We know this time has been incredibly frustrating and difficult and we want to say thank you to all that have helped us learn, grow, and rolled with us through the struggles.
Thank you,
Brianna Wildgoose-Lister DVM, Managing Veterinarian
Michelle Chapman, Hospital Manager
