I have been a REALTOR® for over four decades now, so I have achieved a lot in this field, but I have also had some personal challenges that real estate helped me get though…
If you are reading this, you probably know I love being a REALTOR®. There is no greater honor than being entrusted to handle one of the biggest financial decisions in a person’s life; buying or selling a home. But what you might not know is how I became a real estate agent and some of the reasons that I have stayed in this field for the last 42 years.
I got married shortly after I graduated high school, and few years later I became a young mother, so I needed to find a way to make ends meet. As soon as I came across real estate, I knew that was it, so I earned my license in 1976.
The first reason I decided to go into this field is because my husband at the time and I weren’t treated well when we bought our first home. Our agent didn’t make us feel valued and we were provided very little service or attention. I believed I could do better because I knew how to treat people, and I believe that trust is the most important aspect of business.
Even though I initially got into this field because I thought people deserved more respect than we received, I immediately realized that I truly enjoyed it. I had found my niche. I loved the field and I found great satisfaction in taking care of my clients.
Secondly, my career means a tremendous amount to me because it helped me though some personal trials and tribulations and real estate made it possible to take care of my kids through some difficult circumstances.
In 1987, I went through an unexpected divorce, and it was a real turning point for me. I realized that I was suddenly on my own. I didn’t receive any financial support. It was a very low, low time in my life. All of the sudden, I found myself as a single mother with two children who were ten and seven years old.
I stayed in real estate because it afforded me the time to raise my kids and stay involved in their lives. As a single mother, an eight to five job would have been very difficult to do while keeping up with my children. My son was very active with sports in in high school, Cardinal Newman. I never missed a practice or an event.
I raised my kids on my own until they were ready to move on. Now they’ve grown up to be very fun and well-adjusted people, which I am obviously very proud of. My son joined the Air Force when he was nineteen and just retired after twenty years of service. My daughter is a hair dresser, and she owned her own hair salon that she recently sold.
I ended up becoming a Broker in 1990, and I have accomplished a lot in this field in the last four decades, but I still worried throughout my career about how to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table for my children and I. There is no greater motivation than that! Real estate allowed me to make that happen!
Now I work because I want to work. I still love being a REALTOR®. I like to stay busy. It doesn’t matter what a person’s background is, I am here to serve them. Taking care of my clients and protecting their interest is so fulfilling for me. I get no greater satisfaction than helping people through the real estate process and handing them the keys when it is all said and done.
Just because I have been in this field for a long time, doesn’t mean that I know everything. Real estate is constantly changing, so I keep up on all the rules and regulations to better serve my clients. I also like to stay current because I really enjoy this field and there is always something new to learn about.
During my time in real estate I have sold every kind of property from mobile homes to mansions, and I have treated every one of those people with the same respect. Part of the reason for that is because I just love to serve my clients. The second is that real estate has helped me and my family through some tough times, so I have a true appreciation for this field!
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my life. I would love nothing more than to share my experience and knowledge to assist you with your real estate needs, so I hope that you will allow me the opportunity to demonstrate my services and interview for the job.
