Coming home should be inviting and one should be able to enjoy the view in their back yard in the evenings too!

Lighting Tips:
When shopping for LED light bulbs it’s very important to pay attention to the color of the light. For these bulbs the color of the light is measured in Kelvin or “K”.
The choices are usually: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K or 5000K. The higher the number the more bluer the color of the light will be. For a more traditional setting you will want to choose the 2700K bulb. This is a warmer more yellow light that will blend with your traditional decorative lighting. For a most environments the 3000K is the best light to choose. It is a cleaner more pure white color. For closets, garages or workshop areas the higher 3500K or 4000K color will be a brighter light, but with a slight blue tint. Anything above 4000K will be a very blue color that is best used for lighting exterior environments. Often used to create a “moonlighting” effect.
If you are still in doubt about what bulb to purchase, find a store that has the different colored LED bulbs next to each other and judge for yourself…

The adjustment of large hanging fixtures can be very tricky. It is important to get just the right lengths for this 22’ fixture to hang in a beautiful 2 story staircase in this beach front Galveston home. Thank you Paul Brockman Designs for hiring us to assist in engineering this complex fixture!
Skiing at Copper Mountain was challenging, but so rewarding!
While working on our contemporary farm house in Boulder, CO, I got to do some sight seeing. Tomorrow skiing at Copper Mountain!
When hanging fixtures over a kitchen island there are a few things to keep in mind:
The first thing to decide is how many fixtures you want to hang over your island? If you have a sink centered on the island - do not hang a fixture directly over it. You should rather hang a fixture or two to either side of the sink, depending on the size of your island. If your island is larger than 9’ then you can hang more than 2 fixtures. The fixtures should hang at the very least 30” apart. If you decide to use a linear hanging fixture it should be no larger than 2/3rd the length of your island.
The height of the fixture will depend on your ceiling height. For example: 10 ft ceilings 12” to 24” is besting for 12 ft ceilings you can use a larger fixture, anywhere from 24” to 36”.
Finally the fixtures should hang 30” to 36” off of the surface of your island.
