I’ve stayed up past my bedtime tonight making lemon curd, and my grandmother’s pour custard. I just recently came to find this is really créme anglaise! My mountain grandmother was really making a fancy dessert which she poured over peaches for us during summer when we visited as kids! The lemon curd is a heavenly custard that you could just eat out of the pot! It’s velvety lemony tart sweetness is fantastic on just about anything. The third container is my homemade yogurt. I got fresh cow’s milk and used the cream in the pour custard. I was left with straight milk so I tried my hand at making fresh yogurt! My brother-in-law told me as I was making salsa verde one day that the small tomatillos made the best salsa.🤣 His reason was that women that use the larger ones are lazy!😳😆. well he’d be proud of me today. I picked all our tomatillos in the garden. They were all smallish so I guess the salsa verde was extra good!

It has a storied history in the South. In the Gullah culture they painted porch ceilings blue to confuse ghosts. The Gullah people believed that ghosts couldn’t cross bodies of water. We see it here also I believe, due to our Strong Southern roots in Missouri!
