Just as unhealthy levels of LDL cholesterol can gradually block the arteries of the heart with plaque, the same can occur in the legs or other areas of the body. A narrowed artery in the leg may seem better than one in the heart. However, not only can PAD lead to the same concerns as a heart attack and stroke, but it can also put the affected limbs in danger. A common complication of PAD known as critical limb ischemia.
To help prevent PAD from high cholesterol here are the top 5 lifestyle changes you can make to improve your cholesterol: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/reduce-cholesterol/art-20045935

Treatment depends on how severe your PAD is and what complications you may develop or may already have. Your treatment plan will be designed to help you reach key goals:
Reduce your risk of a major health problem such as a heart attack or stroke reduce symptoms of PAD
Improve your ability to walk, climb stairs, and perform other daily activities
Lower your risk of losing a limb
Improve your quality of life
To treat PAD, your doctor may recommend heart-healthy lifestyle changes, an exercise program, medicine, or a procedure to open or bypass blockages in your arteries.

At 47, Rick was a healthy, active guy who enjoyed playing tennis and watching sports with friends. One day he twisted his ankle during a tennis match. At the ER, they gave him a walking boot to help stabilize his ankle. Four weeks later, after the boot was removed, Rick noticed that his leg had become swollen. He didn't think much of it, until a few weeks later when the swelling became unbearable.

March is National Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month.
Educating the public about this condition and its potentially fatal complications is critical, because most people are unaware of the signs and symptoms of DVT.
DVT is a condition that affects blood flow to the veins, and most often occurs in the legs.
When blood pools and clumps deep within the body, a blockage can restrict free blood flow and begin to slow the formal functioning of the organs.
More information about DVT, including symptoms, risk factors, and treatment, is available here: https://mvsdoctors.com/conditions/deep-vein-thrombosis-dvt/
We are excited to serve as a presenting sponsor of the 12th Annual B'More Healthy Expo, which will be held virtually the week of March 15th!
Stay tuned over the coming days and weeks for more information regarding our involvement in this great event!
Raising a heart healthy child starts with promoting positive habits at home.
If children see that eating well and getting exercise is important to their parents, they are much more likely to adopt similar lifestyles as they get older.
Here are some tips on what you can do to set a healthy example for your kids!

When you discuss blood flow and general heart health with your doctor, you’ve probably heard about the dangers of high cholesterol and hypertension.
However, there is another disease affecting about 18 million people in the United States right now that can cause serious problems if left untreated.
It is known as Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), and although it is relatively common, many people go about their daily lives with no idea they suffer from it.
