Who wants some JAMU!? This is a traditional medicine from Indonesia. It helps with bloating and inflammation. It also helps clean your kidneys and liver! The best part is you can make it at home and with this recipe you can make a weeks worth of wellness shots for your family!
**warning this has a little kick to it!** What you will need:
-1/2 cup fresh turmeric, washed but no need to peel
-3/4 cup fresh ginger roots, washed but you don’t have to peel
-3 cups of water
-1 pineapple
-squeezed lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
-a couple shakes pepper
•Throw everything in the blender and blend for about 1 minute. ✨tag us when you try it!

Sometimes the simplest meals are the yummiest meals! Here is a meal that is super easy to make and good for meal prepping. This is full of veggies, good carbs, and good fat!
What you will need:
- sliced avocado 🥑
- rice 🍚
- sweet potato 🍠
- mango 🥭
- cucumber 🥒
- edamame
- chopped green onion
- sesame seeds
- furikake seasoning
Spicy“Mayo”
Blend all together in a blender:
-1/4 cup raw cashews soaked in warm water for 20 minutes.
-1 Tbsp. lemon juice
-1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
-2 tsp. dijon mustard
-1 Tbsp. minced garlic or 1 clove of garlic roughly chopped
-2 tsp. maple syrup
-1 tsp. onion powder
-Salt to taste
-3 Tbsp. sriracha
*Cook sweet potatoes and rice then portion to your liking. Top with chopped green onion, seasoning, sliced cucumber, mango, and sliced avocado. Then drizzle the “mayo” on top.

This is Amy! She has been a member with us since January 2020. Amy’s favorite exercise is weightlifting especially Olympic lifts. She says she loves Maxfit‘s flexible hours, plethora of equipment, and the people. Her favorite cheat meal is anything that ends in chocolate.. which I’m sure we can all relate to.
While being a member at Maxfit Amy placed third at master nationals and her age/weight class! That is amazing!
Some other fun facts about Amy are she is fascinated by nutrition specifically how food affects the body and mind. Amy has also spent her adult life working for the army so she says she is from everywhere. Thank you for your service Amy! We are happy to have you!

This is Kareem! He’s been a trainer with us for a while now and we are lucky to have him! Kareem graduated from Radford University with a bachelors degree in exercise science. Currently he is a competitive athlete in Olympic weightlifting. His coaching and training career started when he was just 18 years old while earning his second-degree black belt in karate. He says this is when he found a desire to help achieve their goals. Soon after he joined a CrossFit gym, started lifting on his own, then competed heavily in CrossFit. In 2015 he became an athletic performance coach and personal trainer.
Kareem has worked with college athletes, as a class instructor, and coaching at a private gym. Through his years of training experience Kareem has worked with a wide range of individuals on different physical spectrums and is able to adopt a coaching style to fit his clients needs.
“My coaching philosophy revolves around 3 mentalities I set for myself and expect from my clients, which are effort, accountability, and respect. To me a coach should be someone who makes an effort each and every session to help their client achieve new goals all while setting a new training minimum. As a coach we should also be accountable to the client and respecting them as an athlete or individual.”
Kareem says his goal as a coach is to help his clients achieve a healthier lifestyle and is excited to help change people’s lives! You can learn more about Kareem on our website. Tomorrow we have a fresh new year and also when many of our one personal goals begin. But as you start to write down your goals use the SMART guide to help make your goal more achievable by following this outline.
S- specific, make it one one thing not a broad area (ex: lose 10lbs not lose weight)

M- measurable, can you keep a track or a time line to show progress?

A- attainable, is it something you as an individual can achieve
-
R- realistic, it’s it humanly possible?

T-timely, goals should be a process, even small goals. Try to see if your goals can be achieved in a couple of months, 6 months or the end of the year.

Make sure to write down your goal in the first floor gym!! Let us know, we are here to help and seeing your goal on the board is a good reminder of why your here!
